can you die from HIV?

i do not suffer from this disease but a very very close freind does and she didnt want to have to ask such a question, but sshe realy needs to kow, please, help her out, please

If I'm not mistaken, its not HIV that you die from but rather AIDS.

HIV doesn't kill...it only weakens the immune system to a point that the person is so helpless to fight off disease that they die easier from common ailments. Also, a high percentage of them get AIDS. I think there are drugs out there to slow the onset of HIV and strengthen the immune system, but these only put off the inevitable.

If you're positive with HIV, then you are likely to get AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) if not treated. There have been a lot of advances in treatment, but there is still not a cure. The treatment is a series of medications taken several times a day and must be taken on schedule. Else, the virus could mutate and not be treatable. Of course you can. I think H.I.V. has to turn into full blown A.I.D.S. first though. It's not really AIDS that kills you. AIDS stops your body's ability to fight off infections like a cold or the flue, etc. So in the end it would be something like the common cold that could end up killing you.

Sorry about your friend. That is sad. I think the methods used to treat it have gotten better so your friend could live with HIV for a long time.

Many people are living with HIV nowadays but as it known that HIV developed into AID if not taken well care of. You do not die of HIV, it developed to AID and that you die from.
I don't think that you can die from HIV but if left untreated it will eventually lead to AID. But i think either way it still death.

my uncle has hiv hes had it for over 20 years..he got it shootin up on heroin..he takes medication everyday to help him stay healthy.most of these people just shout out yes you will die..everyone dies..hiv can turn into aids if you get a bad infection or get really sick..once you have aids your chances are higher of dieing once you have aids you can live up to a few years dependong on how well your being taken care of..but if you have hiv and are very cautious of what you are doing you will live for a while..so tell her to keep her head up..and take care of her self..

no offense but if your friend was diagnosed with HIV they had to have beeen to a doctor of some sort. And if they didn't live on some other planet or country they would know about HIV and AIDS

Yes you can die from H.I.V. but guess what? You can die from ANYTHING!! And really, H.I.V. and AIDS arent as scary as they once were. Take extremely good care of yourself, and talk to your doctor and to put your mind at ease, maybe a psychologist. Ive known people who beat cancer but then got hit by a car two weeks later, its life, youre going to die no matter what(not to sound scary) Live it every day to the fullest :)

this disease kills white blood cells that help kill any bacteria that enter your system and try to hurt you. so if your white blood cell count is too low then when you get sick from a little cold it will get very serious and you will most likely die. the solution to this is to get PRESCRIBED pills that increase your white blood cell ocunt and make you stronger. hope that explains it well enough for you.

Tell her to go get some information from her doctor. HIV itself does not kill you, but you will die of it because it makes you very susceptible to secondary infections and certain types of cancer.
