I'm just wondering if anyone has read any of his books and wondering how muslims feel about him.

I think he is a great writer and I appreciate his prose, he writes a lot about the strife in India concerning the religious divides. But also political and social commentary.

Never heard of him, but I know there is a supposed "ex-Muslimah" here on Yahoo! Answers somewhere whose account keeps getting violated because of her attitude against Muslims... and her name on her profile was "Salman Rushdie", so... I'm expecting that the real Salman Rushdie is an anti-Islamic person who writes against Islam...? Correct me if I'm wrong since I don't know :D!

Edit: just read about him! Just knowing that, in his books, he names "Mecca" (the center of the world, the direction toward which Muslims face during prayers, the HOLY city) the "Jahilia," which means "the ignorant". Sheesh! Nope, he seems very disrespectful for a writer. I don't think anyone should portray the holy place of ANY religion this negatively, this ignorantly. It's just rude, even if the person considers it fair and truth.

I read his controversial book years ago. I don't remember it well, but I remember it being very boring...very drawn out...very convoluted prose. I remember thinking the most offensive thing about it was the writing style. I also remember it being more of a political criticism then a religious one.
