I would say a chihuahua, but that is because I love them so much. I think they are the cutest, smartest, friendliest dogs ever. You will have to train and socialize them, if you want them to be like this. They are a great lap dog, and love their owners completely. They will not be friendly with others if not socialized. They need to be taken out as a puppy around other people and animals, or they will become unfriendly to all but their owner. My 2 like everyone:kids, adults, dogs, cats, ferrets, and are even trained not to attack small animals(rats or sugar gliders). I did train and socialize mine, but it is not hard since they are extremely smart. They also can get all the exercise they need inside, and only require short walks. They are super easy to groom if you get a smoothcoat. I can not say enough about the Chihuahua. I think they are absolutely the best dog breed ever.

The papillon is the best and the cutest they are generally about 6-10 lbs also! They also ranked in the top ten of the smartest dog breed also being the only small dog on that list! Mine is good with my 2 year old all animals and all people! On a scale of one to ten i rate Papillon's 100! Good Luck!

I own a female Bulldog and a female Dachshund and they are wonderful! Brittany (Bulldog) is very low maintanance, loves her walks (I walk all my dogs everyday for 30 minutes or more), gets along with Milly (Dachshund) and Justin (Giant Schnauzer) really well! Britt is preggo at the moment with 3 pups and she is doing well - even under so much pressure! Although a lot of Bulldogs are un-healthy and have several major health problems, I have been lucky with this little angel! They are very short and compact but weigh a lot. They may not be in the tiny section but height wise, they are tiny!
Milly has a bad dog odor to her because she is a hunter but after 5 months, I got used to it. She is a bit of an attention seeker and is currently pregnant with 4 puppies! Dachies are known to have a lot of spinal disc problems but if you buy one from a reputable breeder, they can be very healthy.

I have a wiener dog (daschund). They are low maintenance as far as not needing lots of grooming (they have short hair). I have a small backyard (fenced) so I let the dog outside several times a day. They enjoy the sun but hate the cold weather (at least my dog does). I rarely have time to walk her - but it's okay. The dog waits for me while I'm at work and is happy to see me when I come home. I do let the dog sleep in my bed - and we get lots of cuddle time then. So basically I have to feed, water and let her outside. That's it.

Pugs are great, don't need alot of excercise. Brushing the dog down with a curry comb(a round rubber brush with nubs) will reduce shedding. They're couch potatoes and clowns, and will always make you smile. They're not exactly top obedience champions, but you can teach them a few commands. And they love to eat, so make sure you don't over-feed them. They also need special attention to the wrinkles on their face, wiping between the wrinkles with a baby wipe daily. Any grooming(brushing and wrinkles) should take maybe 5-10 minutes of your time a day. Also watch for their eyes, they don't have as much protection from protruding objects because of their flat face.

Cocker spaniel? Can you say hair care? Eyecare?
The boson terrier could be good. Short hair and usually good temperment. Same with minpins.
Pugs good but shed bad.
Poodle mixes are good and don't shed much but becareful in the hair care dept. Also tend to be smart.
pekes, shih-zoo and lasa-aspas are good but hair care and eye problems with the peke-a-nese being the less.
Puppies require more attention and training so might look in the 1 year range or 6 month range. Also people are ready to get rid of christmas puppies so could pick one up for free to next for nothin.
These are just my thoughts and sorry for my spellin'.

You need a chihuahua. They are the best dogs, do not need a lot of exercise, a smooth coat doesn't need much grooming. They can be trained to use a litter box. They are the ultimate lap dog.

I would recommend a mix-breed, "Peek-a-poo" type puppy, First of all they are small like a lap dog, very active, and lovable, they do not shed, as the poodle part of the breed keeps their hair curly. They have good personalities, and live a fairly long life. These types of dogs are also known as boggles, or cock-a-poos. All in all, I would recommend the best mix is a peeka-poo

I would suggest a papillon. They are great companions, very intelligent, love to take walks and are low maintance as far as grooming goes. Also, they arn't big barkers but they will bark if someone comes to your door so they are decient guard dogs.
