A man had dealt about half the cards for a bridge game when he was interrupted by a telephone call. When he returned, no one could remember who had been dealt the last card. Without knowing the number of cards in any of the 4 partly dealt hands, or the number of cards left in the undealt part of the pack, how could the deal be completed so that everyone received the cards they would have received had the deal not been interrupted?

Have everybody set the cards they have aside. Continue dealing normally, starting with the person to the dealer's left. If the deal ends on:
dealer, everyone keeps the cards just dealt.
dealer's left, everyone hands the cards just dealt to the person on their right.
across from dealer, everyone takes the cards just dealt and hands it to the person across from them.
dealer's right, everyone takes the cards just dealt and hands it to the person on their left.
Pick up the cards previously set aside and play.

The dealer dealt the bottom card to himself, then continued dealing from the bottom counter-clockwise. :)
