It hurts and it's sensitive especially after each tightening or new invisalign depending on what kind of braces you get. However, it's not unbearable and you won't be able to eat everything and anything you'd like at all times because your teeth are moving and therefore they are sensitive.

Besides for not being able to chew gum though, you won't be missing out on much and it is very worth it. The pain is not all that bad it's just bothersome and hurts a little for a couple of days after your tightenings or when you change your invisalign braces.

I had braces for 2 1/2 years. It didn't hurt much at all to have the braces put on, but my teeth were sore afterward for about 2-3 days. (not terribly bad, but enough) After about a week or two, you'll forget you even have them. The only time they can get a little sore is when the dentist tightens them. For me, it was done about once a month. He'd remove the wires and replace them with another that would be pulled a little tighter than the last.

Braces are sooo much better than they used to be. I do believe that you will be pleasantly surprised at how minimal the discomfort is these days. More flexible wires are used which help cut down on the pressure on the teeth. I work in an orthodontic office and I always tell my patients to just think of how beautiful their teeth will be
as a result of the braces. If you are unhappy with your teeth, braces are a wise decision

I've had braces for about 8 months now and I remember the first time I got braces, It hurt. Before you get them, eat as much as you can because your teeth will hurt for about a week, because it pulls your teeth together. You'll get use to it after 3 weeks you get it.

It does not hurt when they put the actual braces on. After the braces are on you will feel some discomfort. Every month that you have adjustments made on your braces, you will feel some discomfort also. This usually lasts 2-3 days.

My 10 year old daughter wore braces for 8 months. She had very little trouble with them. The only real discomfort she ever had was right after they were put on about 2 days she took Ib pro-fen. They would bother her for a couple days after getting them adjusted.

She didn't need much work done though.

I had braces as an adult to correct a misaligned upper bite so my son wouldn't feel self conscious about his braces. There is discomfort; the wax works great. They are not painful.
