The two go hand in hand. In the 30's, 40's and 50's pit bulls were the most popular family dog in this country. The goverment used the pit bull as the symbol of courge and national pride in WW1. They were used as nanny dogs to protect the childern of fram families and the first army dog was a pit mix nammed Stubby. He was given severl medals, the rank of SRG. and honored in the white house. Do something about the human element in all of these attacks and they will stop and the pit bull can again be the bright star of the dog world they were at one time.
This is a question I saw but it did not get many answers and i though it neede a second change.

Well I completely understand your point... in my area we do not have gangs, but like everywhere else in the world we have drugs and drug dealers. At the moment it is "cool" for a drug dealer to have a pitty, and nearly every single pot dealing, crackhead, coke addict in town has a pitty that they try and make into a "tough guard dog" so nobody steals their dope or messes with them. The dogs owned by these people are often aggressive, untrained dogs that are encouraged to act violently around other dogs and people and animals... more than once I have met druggies who thought it was amusing to teach their pittys to attack and kill cats, rabbits, etc. I have dipped my hand into the subsociety of drugs and alcohol, and trust me... 9 out of 10 of these people are uneducated, unemployed(except for drug dealing), irresponsible and own at least one pitty breed dog who they tell everyone how "tough and mean and strong" the dog is and how it will attack on command, or how they have them in case of police raids etc. It is sickening... but it is a reality. Look at the dogs previously favored by druggies.. Dobermans, Rottweilers, Shepherds. All of these breeds have at one time or another been the "fashionable" dog for drug dealers to own to make themselves look and feel tough and important. At the time when these dog were the "Guard dog to have" the number of dog attacks from that breed increased dramatically, not because the breed of dog is inherently "bad"...but because the kind of people who were likely to OWN that breed of dog at that time were not prime examples of law abiding citizens. Right now its the pitty breeds that are the latest fashion for drug dealers and the dogs are suffering because of these irresponsible, uneducated people who should not be allowed to have the priveledge of caring for any dog, let alone such a large powerful breed.

I have seen dogs and people living in houses that I would not even consider clean enough to use as a barn for pigs. I have seen druggies trying to turn sweet friendly dogs into vicious killers of cats and other dogs, and trying to make them attack on command or teach them to hate and attack police officers. Some things I have seen the people who live in the murky underworld of drug dealing do not only make me believe that they should not be permitted to have dogs but that they themselves should not even be allowed to reproduce.

These people have ruined things for all the responsible caring, and devoted owners of well trained pittys that live in my town. And throughout the rest of Canada. It is sad that we have allowed some of mankinds best friends and in fact mankinds first domesticated companion animal fall into the hands of people who cant even take care of themselves or be contributing members of society... let alone care for and properly train a powerful carnivorous mammal to be a productive and well behaved member of society.

i personaly think that pit bulls are not rising with the gangs ect. they are wonderful family members if given the proper care and handling.the amount has increased i think rather cuz of the public saying no no no to the breed and media attention. however unfortunately the out lawing of pits now have become a "fad" to some younger people.which in some cases lead to the mis handling poor care and mistreated animals. its sad. there are still good people out there who are buying and breeding for quality for the purpose of only creating a great family pet or companion.pit bulls are given too much bad press.

Pit bulls are actually one of the sweetest dogs. I have noiticed this too. People are giving the dogs bad raps. Training them to fight. It needs to stop.

i agree, pitbulls like any other aggressive dog, when treated poorly, get mean , the only people I see these days that have pitbulls are gang bangers who think they are tuff, or drug dealers who are protecting there drug stash... these pitbulls are often neglected and mistreated and under fed. as a result they become mean, just as german shepard or a weiner dog would..
