It's not a question of "theory" but of documented fact--deforestation has signifigantly reduced the world 's forsts..

I don't know where you heard to the contrary, but they don't even know the most basic facts about ecology.

The reason why that statement is technically true is that even though there is large scale deforestation occurring in many parts of the world, those same companies that harvest those trees also plant seedlings for the next harvest. Check out this episode of "Bullshit" by Penn and Teller. It explains some of the myths of recycling, and why even with deforestation, there are more trees now than there have ever been before.

We do have more trees now than 100 years ago in the United States, but maybe not more than 200 years ago. I suspect that is not true in some other parts of the world though.

I doubt that there are as many trees as there were 200 yrs. ago.

Maybe 100 years ago, there were fewer trees in the U.S. because that was about the peak of the "turn of the century" logging in the West.

But considering the rain forests, which are much smaller now than they were 200 years ago - I would say that overall worldwide, there are fewer trees today.

200 years ago most of North America was dense forest from coast to coast. They say you could walk back then from coast to coast and never leave to forest. Go back a little more and Europe was the same way. And it was all old growth forest. Now we have corn fields and hay growing on land that wood.

hey - i completely agree wth u - no more trees...

the entire food chain is hampered bcoz mankind is misusing the power of technology! everywhr buildings or gardens etc. all of this is man made - wat abt nature! where are the natural forests gone - most of them have been cut for illegal use & most of them cut to make raods, bridges, parks, malls etc. Even hill stations are no longer nature's beauty - they are man-made beauty!!!

we as todays generation - sud understand the importance of trees n try to plant at least one sapling a year - by doing so - we'l atleast try to help mother nature to survive in natural habitat!!!
