I just read the book Jarhead, and i was wondering has your experience been like this, i mean thats terrible stuff and also my other question is
My other impression of the Marine Corps especially (i dont know why) is that they come out and turn out homeless or with a terrible job...is this a large majority? am i generalizing?
I know the USMC is not for cry babies but reflecting on what happened and whats going on in the world got me thinkin about the things i enjoy that no one else has, i truly thank you, your a stronger person than myself for joining up.
God Bless

I was a Marine now i work part time catching people who steal at Wal-Mart and my full time job is an Armed Guard for a armored truck company. I got an MGI Bill that will help me go to University of Texas for creative writing, and since I've been to Iraq my son gets free education anywhere he wants after high school. My wife is a Sgt. with 2 tours in Iraq and she wants to do her 20 years in the USMC so that means she will retire at 40 years old. Let me know how many people will retire at that age. The Marine Corps is what YOU make of it. I had the greatest time i partied my @ss off, i met celebrity's, i met the greatest people, and i killed someone in Iraq and didn't get throwin in jail, here in the US you can get life 4 that. The USMC is not for cry babies? Hey my son was born and i was in a sand storm in the middle of Iraq i didn't even know he was born till the fall of Baghdad, I cried and cried alot i missed the most important time of my family's life cause i was fightin' for God only knows why. But i did it for the USA and the movie jar head maybe a true story but don't believe everything you see in a movie, even if it was a true story.

The book has been criticized up and down the chain of command in just about every branch of the military.

The reason, the author is a cry baby.

There is a term for maggots like him, it's called a ten percenter. He is what he is, and somehow he slipped through the cracks.

Regarding me, I'm a former Marine, former USAF Special Ops, and a respected and successful winemaker.

Marines have no problem adjusting to life after the corp. They generally excel at what they do later in life, I don't care if it's head Janitor or head Surgeon. The one recent exception is John Murtha. I think he might be related to John Kerry.

Jarhead was a terrible book. There are a lot of disgruntle Marines but there are disgruntle people in every job field you can think of. Marines just seem to be a little more vulgar with it.

You are generalizing, Marines are the hardest working most successful civilians to come out of any branch of the military.

Did you know that our military is made up of about 1% of our total population... That's 3 hundred million people we should be all ashamed of our selves, These military people should all be honored the same as royalty for keeping our county safe and sound .. and yes they do some end up in dead end job, but it had nothing to do with the military.. When young solders leave the military they are ready for all types of job. They are all great leaders, they no how to take and follow orders, make decisions, make snap judgment, and get to the root of problems be for they start. their gold is to accomplish the mission.. I would say that a soldier that spends the minimal year's of service and returns home.. has a 100% advantage over anyone of the same age applying for the same job... employer know this and are eager to hire them...

Uh yes, this is a generalization. There are many Marines who go on to great professions and excel. All of the Armed Forces are well represented in the professional community. Thank you for your question.
