ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!
My Mother-in-Law is always causing problems, telling lies, thinks no one is good enough for her son, Did not want us to marry said it would never work out, refused to come to our wedding, we have been married for 15 years now I avoid her as much as possible. Maybe Try That approach. During our 15 years of marriage she has always tried to break us up. For no good reason, I could go on and on of her outlandish approaches of devious behavior, so I have come to the conclusion, SHE IS INSANE, I have been nothing but GREAT to her but JUST IGNORE HER is my answer to you. It will get worse before it EVERRRRRRRRRR gets better, I hope not in your case.
GOOD LUCK!!!!

Not necessarily kiss butt, but definitely be on your best behavior around your in-laws and always lend a helping hand. Be yourself, just be on your best behavior. Know matter how long you have been in your family, your in-laws don't want to see you acting like a ***** or throwing a tantrum. You would probably run and cover if you mother-in-law did that. It's similar.

In the past, maybe when women were not working and contributing to the economy. However it is quite different now where women put in as much work as men and are capable of doing many things.
In can be a problem when generation gaps exist and the older generation who were used to living in old ways do not change and think that time has stayed still - it has not.

Not really kiss their butts but show respect. After all if you have a mother in law you must have married her son...and you obviously married him because he was what you were looking for (or you were desperate), and SHE raised him to be the type of person you wanted to marry.

Kissing butt as you put it, is done by those who want everyone to be happy with them. Not everyone is going to be happy with them. I that is the way she feels. Then maybe you should suggest some meds for her mood swings. The only person you need to try to make happy. Is you and your spouse.

No. No one respects an a** kisser. She needs to establish her place in the family and show she won't back down and that she's strong enuff to take care of mama's baby

No way, you didn't marry the Mother only the son. Respect is earned not demanded.

I don't agree. I don't kiss anyones' a** including my future mother-in-law. I think it's demeaning and stupid. It sounds to me like she has an ego problem.

i do not agree at all. nor should they disrespect. however she is an addition to the family and is her own person. i would lose respect for my daughter in law if she were like that.
