I spoke to my 13-year-old daughter, telling her that she should not sin in her life. She should avoid having sex before marriage, stealing, masturbation, etc. But then my daughter criticized me, telling me that all these prohibitions comes from the Old Testament and that Christians no longer need to follow the Old Testament. She says, "Christians only follow the New Testament. We no longer need to follow the Ten Commandments. We are not bound by the Jewish laws. Jesus in the New Testament had no rules, and so therefore we Christians can do anything we want." She said that if I tell her what to do all the time then I am opposing the free will that God gave her.

I replied by telling her that Jesus did had rules, such as "love your neighbor as you love yourself," but then she used this as proof that you were allowed to have sex before marriage or even have homosexual sex before marriage.

So are the Old Testament rules really gone? Can Christians just do anything they want since Jesus seems to have made few clear rules?

No. It is not okay to sin.
If you want to read up on the truth about Jesus (pbuh) and on what he actually did preach, then read the Gospel of Barnabas, which is available on-line.
Why would Jesus (pbuh) bring a new religion with new rules?
Why would he preach the opposite of what Moses (pbuh) and Abraham (pbuh) preached.
Every Prophet (pbut) before the time of Jesus (pbuh) preached monotheism.
Why would he preach about the trinity? And if you believe in the trinity, why did Abraham (pbuh) and Moses (pbuh) not talk about the Holy Ghost? And what about all the souls in existence before Jesus (pbuh) came? Were all of them not saved?
The clear rules and laws that Jesus (pbuh) brought were altered and changed by men. That is why there are so many contradictions in present day Christianity.

Matthew 19:17-78 states:

Now someone approached him (Jesus) and said, "Teacher, what good must I do to gain eternal life?"

He answered him, "Why do you ask me about the good? There is only One who is good. If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments."

Christians believe that Jesus fulfilled the Law of Moses.

Christians are not held to the ceremonial parts of the Mosaic Law concerning of dietary purity and temple worship.

Christians are held to the moral law of God, some of which is expressed in the Ten Commandments.

However Jesus took the Ten Commandments to the next step summarizing them into the two Great Commandments:
+ You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.
+ You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

And teaching things like
+ Everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
+ Everyone is our neighbor including our enemies.

Therefore we have to go much farther than the original recipients of the Ten Commandments ever dreamed.

With love in Christ.

Jewish regulation became not in any respect propose to be universally ideal. human beings were making up thoughts about Jews and Judaism for millenia. that would not change Jewish regulation. eating beef is taboo for Jews. would not count what someone outdoors of Judaism decrees or what thoughts human beings linked with that circulation make up about us. even if that's taboo for others is between that crew and the divine.
