Yes I have been a teen sunday school teacher, now I am fill in for our Adult Sunday School teacher when he is out. It is a little bit scary, but it is truly a joy, the kids are thirsty for understanding, and learning what the Bible holds distinctly for them, for they are forming who they are in the world's eye, and they are very moldable individuals, they are really exciting and at times really a pain in the caboose, and the biggest challenge.
Give them something that is on their level and at the same time peritinent to where they are in their life at that moment it must be relative to them. Livable for them. Physically and mentally aplicable and spiritual rewarding to them. They are in the present tense in their lives. there is not to much of a future tense, such as years, they think about it but in their mind set it is lightyears away even if it is only six months down the road.
Know your bible, but also be honest with them that you don't know everything, this shows them that you are learner like them, be honest, open, tell them "I don't know the answer - but we will explore the Bible to find it together" - there is no question to silly, or portion of scripture that is too taboo to be learned about - if you get over your head acknowledge it immediately - ask those who you trust as acknowledgable in that specific area. Don't be superior, be there in person, not abstract but totally concrete - remember one thing - "if you say you will do it - under penalty of death, torture or dismemberment, absolutely above all things - do it - or don't say it"

I teach child on Wednesday nights at my church and taught Sunday school at one time. There is lots of Sunday school material out there. Your bible knowledge actually depends on the age group your teaching. I usually start off with a bible lesson and then pray and then a craft or a coloring page.

yes, the thing i found, is that children can bounce off the walls ten times faster than the teachers.
Keep lessons simple and focus on one thing at a time, try not to be overzealous. children will remember something simple the rest of their lives, but if you cram too much they will just get confused and forget everything.
children dont need to KNOW every jot in tittle in the bible. OH! wait, there are no jots and tittles in the English language

It's not that difficult. With Kids it's extremely easy because they'll ask you questions like "Does God love me?" You say yes and ask him/her to read John 3:16... The time will pass like you were standing still.
Adults... You need to get a book called 7 laws of the Teacher by Howard Hendricks. Immerse yourself in the subject that you plan to teach... Anyway, they ask much more difficult questions.

I'd suggest you first talk to your Pastor or head of Childrens Education and tell them you feel led to assist in some way and I'll bet ya they will welcome you.
