linux is a very advanced operating system but with some time it can be mastered by the most unintelligent of minds.
i am not a computer programmer but since money falls short, i have downloaded a couple versions of linux: SLAX, DSL, BEATRIX, and the best one which has just come out and supposedly better than vista is "XGL",
which are all under about 650 megs, given XGL is about 680 and needs a slightly larger cd will give you all the help you need and fix your financial problem and give you the most out of your pc.
and all linux programs will work on even the oldest of p.c.'s ensuring that you have any that can boot from a cd rom.
i hope this helps in any way possible.
regards,
Cory

I would reccomend either PC linux at www.pclinux.org or freespire which can be found at the linspire site (these are user friendly to those migrating from Windows) and can also be used from what is called a "livecd" so you can boot from the cd and try it out before you install them to your hard drive or get rid of windows.

Try www.redhat.com and download a copy of Fedora Core.
It comes with many programs and games ready to go.
Installation instructions and FAQs are on the website as well.

Get UBUNTU. It has an excellent starter guide in WIKI. I highly recommend it for new linux users.
