Clean it with mild soap and water, dry it gently and put antibacterial ointment on it. Watch it for infection. If infection occurs get you cat to the vet. Basically the same thing you would do for yourself if you were cut.
good Luck,

You MUST take him to the vet since the injury is from a suspected animal bite. The ear will need to be treated on the surface (you can do that at home with hydrogen peroxide), but since it is torn, the cat will need antibiotics to ward off infection. But to be honest with you, my cat came home with a nasty bite on his ear (punctured) when he was young and I treated that injury at home by cleaning the injury with cotton balls soaked in peroxide and putting some antibacterial topical cream on it. I cleaned and treated 3 times a day and no infection set in. But I don't know how your cat's injury looks like. I guess I am concerned that a racoon may have bitten him - that's a lot more of a worry than if another cat did the injury.

My friend is a vet and she gave us advice when we had a cat injured. --- When the side of my cat's face was cut open from a fight, we carefully wrapped his body in a towel (so he couldn't scratch us or get away) and gently poured peroxide on his face, being careful not to get it in his ears. All the gross stuff oozed, and he shook his head, and we got goo all over us, so watch out for that if you try this. We repeatedly poured it on the cut until it stopped fizzing. Afterwards, we took a Q-tip and used that to smear vaseline on the cut. We did this once a day for about a week, and just let it go. He did not get an infection, and is just fine today.
If your cat is an outdoor cat, I suggest keeping him in a pet carrier or something similar during the night, to keep him at home until he heals. We kept ours in the shed.

There is nothing short of vet. That is where it needs to go. Did the cat have it shots. If it is a coon it could be real bad. Rabies is a very dangerous things. Stray cats and coons carry it.
Well you can try to clean it off with peroxide. then put some anti biotic on it. Try to wrap it. You are going to need to put the dressing around its head. He will just try to pull it off. Good Luck

I think if you just keep him in and put some kind of ointment with antibiotics in it, he will be fine. Just keep it clean and keep the ointment on so the skin does not dry to much and then he starts to scratch it and make it worse. Now if it starts to get infected, then I would take him in..

dont let him get in contact with any other animals.
and take to the vet asap.
and you MUST NOT have an outdoor cat.
trian it to be indoors.
trust me, i know many people who have lsot there cats wether they got hit by a car, just lost or whatever!
if you love your cat, you would have it indoors.
you dont want this happening again.
hoped this helped and hope your friend gets better!!

You should really take your cat to a vet, particularly if it isn't current on rabies vaccination. It may need to be quarantined and certainly needs medical care.

if you are unsure of which attacker it was, i suggest you get that animal to the vet as fast as you are able, because rabies are a concern......even if it were another cat, you still need to get yours checked out...............for if your animal has rabies, the outcome for it and you is not pleasant.............how do i know this? common knowledge, and growing up on a farm.....

you should take him to the vet asap because he could have done some serious damage that you are not aware of.
