Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, brown sugar or honey. Slice a banana over the top and if feeling good, add a little cream. You could also stir in some sultanas or diced dried apricot.

If you make them with milk, trying using a vanilla flavoured milk to add a little more flavour.

Most people make them too mushy, the directions on the box call for too much water. When boiled down to a mush like that they taste much like wallpaper paste.

For a good-sized serving for one, use about 1.25 cups of water to 1 cup of oats (the old-fashioned style).

Bring the water to a boil, add a sprinkle or two of salt, gently stir in the oats and bring back to a boil. Cover the pot, turn off the heat. Wait about 15 minutes.

The oats will still have some texture to them and won't be pasty. Add a pat of butter and a few tablespoons of pure maple syrup. Eat and enjoy.

Anyone that's tried this has changed their formerly bad opinion of oatmeal to one of approval.

Sometimes I add some raisins to the cold water and then cut back on the maple syrup and butter. You'll need to add a bit of extra water so the raisins won't suck up all the water the oats need.

Add Cinnamon and Sugar and maybe some bites of apple to it. Maybe some Applesauce or bananas or a combination of all of them. Use your imagination it does not have to remain boring! Good Luck
