Hi, i am new and I have a very serious question. I had Bell's Palsy in November. About 2 or 3 weeks in I started having a foot drop. I ignored it. At the end of december I started experiencing weakness in my hand. Now the past week I have noticed slurred speech or feeling like I cannot get my words out. I have to slow down tremendously to get things out. Here is the kicker. They only happen every once in a while and never all at the same time. Weird huh! Everyone else swears they can't tell about the slurred speech. I can't be imaging it .....can I? The Dr. Told me He wanted to get an MRI or Cat Scan. I am classified as Working Poor and have no Insurance. The MRI is close to 1,000 andthe cat scan is 309.00. I need advice both ways. Has anyone else experienced the same things? What can I do. I feel helpless!!!

I don't think it's a disorder of its own but a natural response to your unstable condition. You are worried and have every right to be!

This sounds like a neurological problem and needs diagnostic tests to determine what it is which is why your dr. wants you to get an MRI or CT Scan. I would go with the MRI right away because of the severity of your symptoms. They may do a CT scan and then still decide to do an MRI since an MRI is a more definitive diagnostic tool to use. Yohave this done immediately.

For payment sources, contact your local public library information desk and contact the hospital where you are having this done because sometimes they have special money set aside that they can help the poor out with. Also, they might let you have the test at a reduced fee. Contact DHS to see if they have any payment source as well. Contact a free medical clinic to see if they have any ideas for funding for you.

Talk to the hospital's financial dept. they will take an application and let you pay nothing or as you can. Also at least an MRI and Cat scan don't have big doctor's fees just someone to read them. You must do something about this now. This could be serious, and it is not anxiety. You could have a slow brain bleed, lupus, MS, ALS, and something very simple-doctors do not recommend these tests lightly.

See if you can qualify for some sort of program in your city or state that would cover your medical expenses, and if you can't, you can write medical expenses off on your taxes ... it's really better to be safe than sorry! it may cost you 1309.00 now, but it's better to know if you have a serious medical condition than not have the tests done & end up severely ill & ultimately dead! (I don't mean to be so bold, but it's true, and you have to think of the posibilities) Your health is the one of the most important things you can take care of! Find a way to either pay for the tests or finance it if you can't find a program or inexpensive medical insurance.

No am i pretty sure its not anxiety. Unless you have been under a great deal of stress. My mother had bells palsy due to stress, once the stress factors went away she got better. Recently my father died from esophageal cancer, he had brain cancer first and had 3 successfull operations to get it out. The esophogus cancer got him in the end. When he had his brain tumor he experienced some of the same things along with grande mal seizures. To me it sounds like you have some sort of brain problem. Please try to find a way to get the tests you need. It could make a LIFETIME of difference. We got 2 years beyond the discovery of his brain tumor. Amazing considering what he went through. I know I appreciated his being around. Hopefully you have someone there for you to help you get through whatever this is. Best Wishes
