I'm assuming that, since you know that this person has cancer, they are receiving definitive care from a qualified professional. The assistance you would be able to provide would be mostly supportive, both mentally and physically. If you are the caregiver for this person and they are a loved one, I would suggest looking into a first aid class, as this will give you a base of knowledge to draw from should you be called on in an emergency situation. Here are the basics:
A - Airway (Is it open and clear of secretions?)
B- Breathing (If the patient is not breathing normally on their own, you must assist)
C- Circulation (Check for heartbeat, if none, begin CPR)
Should you feel the need to contact 911, do not hesitate, time is of the essence. Be ready to provide the ambulance crew with information. The easiest and quickest way to do this is by making a copy of the patients drivers license and writing on it the patients prescribed medications. Good luck and godspeed.

Is it lung cancer? Is it in the final stages and has the doctor said that all treatments have been exhausted? If this is the case, all you can do is pallative care. Give any medications, such as cough syrup, that the doctor has ordered, provide tissues, and just be there for the person. Spitting up blood is not unusual for people with advanced lung cancer. If he person is seeking aggressive treatments, i.e. radiation, chemo., etc. then you should report to the doctor and get instructions from him

Find out more details.
- What form of cancer?
-What stage?
-How much blood?
-What colour of blood?
-How much coughing are they doing before the blood appears?
If you are not sure about some of these, I would be contacting the doctor and see what they have to say.

Go to ER sounds like they have a tear in there stomach.I'm not sure where the cancer is , but I know a bleeding ulcer will cause you to cough up blood.By the time your coughing up blood it can be life threatening, so he/she needs to go to the hospital so he / she doesn't hemorrhage

Just keep handing the tissues over (and don't touch soiled tissues without gloves).
You can also ask the person what you can do for them. Sometimes just being there is a God send.
