My family went to a new church where my wife wore a veil to cover her head because of 1 Corinthians 4:5-7 that says "But any woman who prays or prophesies with her head unveiled brings shame upon her head, for it is one and the same thing as if she had had her head shaved. For if a woman does not have her head veiled, she may as well have her hair cut off. But if it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should wear a veil. A man, on the other hand, should not cover his head, because he is the image and glory of God, but woman is the glory of man."

Afterwards, however, we were told by church officials that nobody in the church follows that rule, so my wife is not to wear a veil. My wife doesn't know whether she should follow what the church says or not.

Romans 13:1-2 says, "Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever res

Yet in Acts 5:29, Peter says, "We must obey God, not men." So should my wife wear a veil when she prays?

all of the books which you have quoted were written by paul. Paul did not like women. he treated them as second-class citizens, because in those times, women were 2nd class citizens. that's the story behind the veil thing.

in response to your acts quote: Corinthians was written by paul, and paul is not god. it was his idea that women should wear veils.

Zoiks. Nothing like posting a genuine Bible question and getting answers from 15 people who don't believe in the Bible in the first place.
First - the passage is in I Cor 11. It is a classic 'huh?' passage for most Christians. The short answer is that most folks believe it is a cultural issue that Paul was addressing regarding wives showing respect for their husbands. Married women wore veils as a sign of respect. It's not something that is referenced or repeated in the New Testament, and doesn't seem to tie in with other principal doctrines, which leads most to believe it was a cultural issue specific to that time.

Well thats too bad because when I go to church I where jeans and a hoodie. I wear whatever I damn well please. not even my high school enforces the dress code. Besides the people at my church don't judge others on what they were. I think the Bible was written by some man. I'm an agnostic in a way anyway, I'm not sure about anything anymore.

take those passages with a grain of salt.

a Man wrote 1 Corinthians. His grasp of male-female relations is slightly off..

But i would argue that God does not need some one to wear or not wear certain clothing to be in communion with Him. So your wife can wear whateva she wants so long as her heart is dedicated to God.

You only need to wear a veil if your hair is short, but if your hair is long it acts as a veil aswell. Read further alittle but she doesn't have to take it off...

Im a Christian woman that veils. Jesus told the disciples before He ascended to the Father , that their was so much more He had to teach them , but they couldn't bear it yet. Jesus told the disciples to tarry in Jerusalem in the upper room and wait for the Holy Ghost the Promise from on high to receive power. The bible says that all scripture has been give to us for reproof, correction, edification, and sound Doctrine in 2 Timothy 3:16. When we read 1 Corinthians 14:32, 1 Timothy 2:3-11, 1 Corinthians 11:1-16, Titus 2:3-5, 1 Peter 3:17 we understand clearly without confusion that the Gospel and teaching of our Lord teaches us women to be reverent, meek, homemakers, submissive to our husbands and our Lord JESUS and GOD our Father, The veil in 1 Corinthians 11 represents that submission. When we read verse by verse we understand that the purpose of the veil is a symbol of authority over the womens head that represents her willful godly submission to the government order of GODs kingdom authority on earth. Christ is the head of man, man is the head of women, and GOD our Father is head of Christ. The bible teaches that if a women doesn't veil, she dishonors or disrespects her authority which is her Father, Husband, Christ and GOD our Father. The bible uses Nature as an example of that Spiritual Symbol of authority over womens head. Nature teaches that it is a shame for a man to grow long hair, but its glory for a women to grow her hair. How do we know that the covering isn't just the long hair of the women, because the scripture teaches us so. It says that if a women doesn't cover her hair-head its all in the same as if she shaved her hair off. It says that if a women doesn't cover her head to might as well shave her hair also, since its a sign of rebellion and dishonor to authority placed over her. Does this mean that us women are insignificant and unimportant, Not at all. Its an honor for us women to be able to know our godly proper order and live in it within the boundary of GODs love and protection. This is for our protection and honor as women. We as Christian women have many talents and abilities, but all in their proper place. We are not allowed to take authority over men or to teach men within the church gathering, in other words being female pastors or priests are rebellion against GOD. We can witness to any soul about our salvation in the saving grace of Christ alone, we can pass out flyer with gospel message, we can clean the church, we can visit orphans, convalescent hospitals, women's prisons, we can help in childrens church and nursery, we can teach other women, we can pray , fast, and prophecy within the biblical commands of GOD, etc.... we are valuable, and their is neither male or female in Christ when it comes to salvation through repentance and turning to Christ JESUS as our only hope of salvation. Men as well as women are called to submit in their proper order. Men are called to submit to Christ JESUS in everything. Women submit to men in all things that are not sin even to unbelieving husbands. This is true sound biblical Doctrine. Its not always easy or feels great to the flesh of women because we are raised and taught to be feministic, authoritative, headstrong, rebellious, vain in appearance . We can be intelligent and still be submissive and feminine meek and humble. We can adorn ourselves with true beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit and with moderation, modesty, holiness, and decent. Im not claiming I have it all down but I know what GOD is teaching me to be according to the power of GODs Holy Ghost and sound biblical Doctrine and its all the contrary of what I was in the world and even as a younger Christian women. The more I grow in Christ, the clearer it is to me as a women. Tell your wife to follow Christ and His Doctrine and teaching and hold on to him, The author and finisher of her faith. We are called to submit to governing authority but only when its not sin. When their opinion or custom is contrary to Christ, we follow JESUS. The last scripture regarding the veil says that if anyone wants to be contentious that we don't have such customs neither the churches of GOD. I believe that what Paul is talking about is the custom of shaving our heads and being rebellious women, and being contentious against GODs Holy Doctrine. Now some can interpret that as saying that we don't have to veil as long as we are submissive, but this would contradict everything that was just taught within the scripture. Well pray and fast and ask GOD Himself to reveal it to you by the reading of His word and revelation of Holy Spirit. Don't listen to everyones opinion go straight to GOD and HIs word and get your answer. Blessings in the mighty name of YESHUAH our Lord and Savior and Our GOD and Father in Heaven.
