Interesting question. Thanks for asking it.

The answer is Yes. Marketing research follows the step of scientific problem solving. Here they are:

1.state the problem = sales are going down

2.form a hypothesis = consumers buy less of our product because they think it is too expensive

3.test the hypothesis = test what is the adequate price range for our product.

4.collect the data = conduct the survey

5.analyze the data = analyze data

6.draw conclusions = draw conclusions

Have a good one. Cheers.

Scientific means you have data that you collected and you interpret that data on a chart, like an anova or t test, and you show significance. All of which can be done on Microsoft excel. The question you have though asks what the limits are of using online shopping as a method of scientific research. Like how reliable are the surveys? Not very. Are people actually taking them? Not many. Are people taking them just to get free stuff and not answering truthfully? Things like that. My opinion is these are horrible places to poll for surveys to true scientific data. Good luck.

No. Marketing research is quite easier than scientific problem solving.

No, since human behavior isn't fundamentally rational.
