If you are in severe chronic pain then I say "why not give it a try". There are serious side effects, and it may not work for everybody, but to the victim of pain, almost anything is worth trying to escape from the daily horror you go to sleep with and wake up with. I would also recommend being in a pain management program, taking an anti-inflammation drug, and getting a proper amount of excercise. I take Methadone for my pain control, walk daily, take an anti-depressent,get massage daily to help stamp out muscle spasms and go to the local hot springs. The key is that just one thing isn't going to end the pain, but a combination of things may suppress it. Good luck.

You are only supposed to have a few cortisone shots in a lifetime,I have had them too I have disc and knee problems but I refuse them these shots eat away at your bones after a while.Doctors overuse these shots and they know it.It is a quick fix period and the longterm affects are not good they will cause you more suffering years later

The general pattern is 3 shots in an area for life. The relief from the first is usually measured in months. The second is measured in weeks and the third in days.
My shot hurt like the devil and was better for about 1.5 months.

i have disks between my vertabrae c6 and c7 that are degenerating. it causes the spine to pinch nerves and my left forearm and my thumb and index finger go completely numb. i had two choices... get my disks fused together or get an epidural and have cortisone shots injected into the space. i chose the shots and three days after i was injected i started getting feeling back and today.. a year later... i have absolutely no numbness and havent had to have another shot.. i would swear by them!
