If you want them to wear black, then have them wear black! I went to an all black and white wedding last year. The girls were in black dresses and carried single white roses. The guys were also in black tuxedos with a single white rose pinned to the lapel. It was held in the evening during the winter months. Everything was simply gorgeous!
If you decide on magenta, maybe you could coordinate with a contrasting color rather than trying to find matching hues. Bright yellow or perhaps a muted shade of grey-blue might look nice. If nothing else, white matches anything. (This is not my suggestion, BTW.)
Do go with the color that will make you happy. It's your wedding and it's a once in a lifetime experience. Plan it to suit your needs and tastes, nobody else's.

Although it is traditionally unacceptable, all kinds of brides these days choose black for bridesmaid dresses, especially if it is a winter or fall wedding. I personally am drawn to the colour black because it is so flattering for everyone, but I am a little old fashioned and would probably avoid the colour for that reason. That said, i really don't see any reason why you can't use black, if you don't personally have a problem with it. I think the pink accents is a fabulous idea! Or what about black with magenta accents? It would be great to spice up the plain black a little and maybe 'cancel out' the bad luck? lol
Good luck with whatever you choose! I am sure you will have a lovely wedding.

Well even though I may be a guy I have noticed that generally white and pink work quite well. Or there is also the combination of magenta, and there many other colors that you can choose from. I would suggest the white and baby pink If I was getting married I would suggest to my future wife to go with white and baby pink. But now if she listened or not that truly is not my problem. Because the Bride, and the bridesmaids all ways end up looking fine after all is said and done. So choose what you want. As I said before though I would suggest baby pink and White.

Could you bump up the pink accent? For example, David's Bridal (and other designers, I'm sure) have black skirts that can be paired with a pink top that has a black accent. That would look much more cheerful.
I was in a wedding where the dress was magenta. Yes, it was difficult to match everything, and I'm not sure I wore the right color shoes.

First of all Black is not the color of death...basic black is very sophisticated and is also a great choice because you can accent it with any color you prefer with the flowers or with jewelry, such as gold or silver jewelry, and the girls can wear them over again on another occasion. It's great that a Bride would consider the bridesmaids spending money before hand on a purchase such as this and let them get some other use out of their dresses. Also I would not put a color on the dress...why not put pink and a little bit of burgundy color into the bouquets, it will look great. Congratulations and Best Wishes to You and Your Fiance'.

I've been to a few weddings that the maids wore black, and you're right. It's beautiful. It just looks so classy and sophisticated. I will say that both the weddings were in the evening, but if everything is inside, I don't see why that should make a difference.
If you're still leaning towards the magenta, a pale pink will also go with that.

Is it possible to meet up with your future bridesmaids and go to a fabric store together and hold up fabrics to their faces, etc. and feel the weight of the material?
The reason I say this, is because sometimes the bridesmaids' hair colour and skin colour will play a part in fabric colour selection.
What month is the wedding? What colour dress are you wearing - white, cream?
My daughter was a bridesmaid in the summer and the fabric was a very small print in pastels - it looked amazing....from a distance it looked a pink/peach shade and you didn't notice the print unless you were close.
I thought black was out of style now.... ???
Anyway: I wish you a happy married life
Oh, P.S. Once chosen, make sure your bridesmaid doesnt dye her hair a different colour before the wedding, lol

You can go with black and pink or the magenta and pink. Go with whatever you like the best. I have been to a wedding that the colors were black and white and it looked so classy.

Black and White weddings are so common now a days,it just looks so good. Stick with the black you can have accents of silver and deep red as well which works so so well. Most people who have taste wont look at the black as somthing bad but will notice how beautiful it looks. The men usually always wear black so the girls would match perfect if they did as well. On the invitations have silver ribbon holding it together and have a black border around the edges, looks great!

There is nothing wrong with black with the magenta color accents, you could also do different shade of Magenta as well,
here are some web sites that I think might help you, They have color wheels to help with the colors to match dress accents and invitations. Good Luck
