The pituitary gland secretes a lot of hormones that are very necessary especially during puberty. Major one is human Growth Hormone. If you don't get enough of it, then it can lead do dwarfism. Another is Gonadotrophins which are Follicle Stimulating Hormone and Leutenizing hormone which stimulates testosterone secretion and sperm production in males and estrogen and progesterone secretion and egg release in females. It also produces adrenocorticotrophic hormone which causes the adrenal glands to release DHEA which causes secondary sex characteristics to produce in females.

If the pituitary gland is not functioning properly, puberty may not even take place. The pituitary gland is the gland that produces the hormones that stimulate and carry on puberty. Growth, menstrual cycles in girls, pubic/underarm/facial hair growth, changes in voice, milk production in breasts as well as creation of the milk ducts - all stem from the hormones produced by the pituitary.

If there is a disorder with the pituitary gland, that person will need to visit a physician to diagnose it and treat it. Practically all disorders of the pituitary are treatable.

Many things could happen because the pituitary releases many of the hormones that control our bodies. It depends on which side of the pituitary is affected (anterior or posterior) and which hormones are involved.
