Well you should sit down and make a list of pros and cons about joining the army. Ask yourself if you are ready to commit four or more years of your life in serving your country.
Are you old enough to join? Do you have any physical ailments that might impede you from joining. Are you being hesitent because of what you see in the media or what your friends tell you?
If you really want to serve your country in this way and think you can do it then go with your gut instinct. I usually just jump into things feet first and have a backup plan just in case. I hope this helped.

There are a lot of benefits and minuses. If you do join, make sure that you get signed up (in advance) for some specialty where you can learn a skill or profession.
If you just go down and join up to become an infantry or other combat specialty, you are more risk of being killed. However, the chances of being killed in Iraq is very small. I must admit that combat training and weaponry is REAL addictive, but has few civilian careers associated with it. I learned the basis for my career in the military and coming from a poor country town, I am VERY glad that I joined the military.

You can learn discipline in the military that will last you a lifetime. It is better when you are young and un attatched. The military has some challenging courses but after that there are long periods of boredom and tedious tasks. You get to travel the world but usually to the worst places in the world. It is a job that many respect but often goes unrewarded except to those close to the military. It really is up to you , when you are settled down and have kids you might regret not doing it when you were single.

Check out the reserves. So if you do end not liking it..you can still live a normal life. I would look at the other branches, not just the Army. Talk to a recruiter from each service and then be sure to double check all the information they give you.

The very first question you should ask yourself, because this is a genuine and very real possibility, is are you ready to die? All this talk about noble causes and all is very nice... But in the end... are you ready to consider the fact that you may very well come home in a body bag. I think sometimes the military is disguised behind a veil of nobleness, and that is all well and good, one who serves should be admired and revered for his sacrifice to his country. But when you put all that aside, really the crucial decision to make is whether you are truly aware and accept the fact that you may die. Good luck in you decision!

no one can really tell you whether you should or shouldnt join, but i can tell you that i sure wouldnt. with the world the way it is right now and America going berko with seeminly no real idea, it seems like a great way to get yourself killed, horribly injured or mentally destroyed. Just think about the fact that you would be specifically trained and used to kill other people, not all of them 'the enemy' either. the blood of innocent civillians and allies (there is that whole secret cockpit tape of the bombing of a british convoy by amercian pilots out right now) will potentially be on your hands. is that what you want out of life?

I wouldn't support my worst enemy joining the army right now. Navy and Air Force; all the way. Marines and Army? Hell no. You have only one life to live and the title of "hero" is not worth that life.

My husband is in the military, and it seems to suit him well, but I can understand why something keeps holding you back. It's a big decision and a big commitment. I would do more research to make sure you know what you'd be getting in to.

If you do sign on the dotted line and raise your right hand, and you wanted to get out then....Dress inside out in your BDU's and make sure you wear your brown undies over your pants with shlt stains ...don't take a shower, dont change your clothes and piss on yourself in the presence of others...works every time....

Do it if you have the inclination. You will regret not joining and the window of opportunity closes fast.
