I'm planning to get married in August of this year. We want to have a romantic and intimate wedding with a guest list of 50 close family and friends. But we don't want to go into any debt troubles, so we've set our budget at $2000-$5000. We choosen to have a island theme wedding since we both love the Bahamas. How could we obtain such a beautiful and romantic wedding without breaking the set budget or the bank?

You said Island Theme wedding, right? Not necessarily a destination wedding. I did a tropical theme wedding for roughly that price range. We rented a shriners temple and used their table and chairs. Rented linens in turquoise and lime green. I bought a lot of vases and bought my own flowers (in orange and fushia) for the arrangements. It was just the flowers and some blue flat marbles on the table. I used mulitple colored glads (which have multiple blooms on each stem) which I bought for just a couple bucks each. Silk hibiscus were laying around on the tables. I bought tiki torches at Michaels craft store for a dollar each (after the 4th of July they go down a lot in price). They were around the buffet table and the entrance. We had a great caterer but I only did appetizers--mostly fruit--since it was an island theme. Could have done pork like a luau. She did beautiful arrangements with the food that you didnt need other things. I had a friend DJ with songs from my computer so there was nothing I hadnt approved that he could play.

The cake was absolutely gorgeous! I found someone who hadn't been doing wedding cakes long--she mostly did mediterranean desserts. But it was fabulous. Walmart makes wedding cakes too though that are beautiful. You could also save money by buying a cake stand. You could either get one that 2-3 layers that each go on a layer. Or you could get 3 seperate stands and have them at different heights, one behind each other. http://www.weddingcakestand.net/

We bought a couple posters of island scenes to put up in front of the gift table and the favors. On other tables, put flat bowls or glassware out with floating candles/one big flower in it. And for favors we found tropical scented candles in cool scents like Pina Colada, Mango Daquiri, and Margarita. As we served pineapples on the fruit bar, the pineapple shells and tops were used in decoration.

Don't do alcohol. That is one of the more expensive things. You could do a nice virgin daquri or pina colada for everyone there for the price of wine. Or just do a drink and dessert menu with no food. Don't rent a limo to drive you. Just use a friends nice car. We used an antique car. Don't spend a ton of money on a DJ--as most of the time he annoys people anyway. I didn't hire a singer or a string quartet for the ceremony.

5,000 is a lot more money than you first think. Get friends to help out whereever you can--if you have someone who can bake a cake. Or play an instrument for the ceremony. Perhaps you know someone who could loan you some tiki torches they have from last summer or some things for the main room--like flat bowls to float candles in. People love to loan something and satisfies something "old" and something "borrowed." Pick what really matters to you and what doesnt. Flowers, food, bright colors. Also could save money by having it in the church reception hall. I didn't but with the price of renting the church, you could use the fellowship hall for free. Ours was gorgeous--and looking back there isn't anything I would change if we'd had more money to spend. Hope this helps!

I am not sure that the Bahamas have any all inclusive deals, so if they don't, I would suggest finding an alternate place for your wedding that does. I've been to the dominican republic 3 times, very beautiful but the last 3 years it has gotten very pricey. Smaller places like Curacao(been there too) or the otherside of the DR may have better deals -- also Jamaica- they have some great all inclusive deals--and I guess it depends on where you live now and where you have to fly out of--that is where the price really escalates- you could also consider a cruise to the bahamas- they are all inclusive except for liquor and you can have the wedding on the day you dock--- oh, also check into Bimini, I think that's spelled right, it's one of the smaller islands in the bahamas, my niece is going there in April and she is renting a condo-- not too pricey and that may be another way to go---don't forget that August starts hurricane season so I hope it is the first week of August................congratulations........try travelfleamarket.com, they are a great travel site to check out.

Do you have a friend/family member with a large backyard? (maybe even on a lake or something?) Why dont you do an outdoor reception at this location (no location fee!) and have tiki torches light the area? You could rent tables/chairs and maybe even skip the dj aspect all together and have a cd of island music play in the background? With the money you will save in location/dj you can concentrate on having a really good buffet (perhaps a luau theme?) and get some cute island theme decorations for the tables (maybe hurricane lamps with candles island/large shells/ peoples names on sand dollars for place setting?)

Contact a resort. A lot of resorts will give you a great deal if you want to get married on their property. They charge a flat rate and do everything for you. Don't be heart broken if everyone doesn't want to pay to attend. Have a small intimate ceremony with your family and closest friends. Try Breezes, they do some really neat things! Congrats!

Any all inclusive resort in Mexico or the dominican or anywhere else for that matter will look after that . Tell the wedding guests look at it as a vacation and they will pay their own way and every body will have a good time.
