Considering that you said that she meditates, I have a strong feeling that she is not Christian or at least her personal beliefs are not very strong in the Christian faith. But that's ok, cause I'm a Neo-Pagan.
Because you say that she feels the presence, it is quite possible that it is not a hallucination. He could possibly be the wandering spirit of one who has passed, or perhaps an ancestor who has seen her pain and come to her aid. Could even possibly be the manifestation of some still within this life who has studied the art astral projection.
As to the last of these possibilities, I believe an explanation is required. Astral projection is achieved by meditating and using the spiritual energy present within ones body to project the image, voice or general presence of one's self into another conciousness. This is actually a real technique. My soul mate and I are both Neo-Pagan and though he was not concious of his practicing the technique, I was doing so. In our sleep, we frequently casted projections of ourselves into each others dreams. Because we are so deeply connected in spirit and soul, even from states apart at the time, we can sense each others pain. (When he is hurting emotionally, I often get a cold feeling throughout my body and begin to shiver uncontrollably, even in hot whether. I realized this because last time it occured, his friend killed himself right as he walked through the door. He called me two hours later, and told me the time. At the exact time, I had one of these spells in the middle of a rather chipper conversation in a warm room) During these times of pain, we will project ourselves to each other and though it is not very strong because we are awake, we can still feel the warmth and comfort of the other being there.
So in the end sweety, I don't think she needs psychiatric help. Rather, she should try to ask the man whom exactly he is and if he is still of this world. If she can't verbally speak with him, she should try something more like scrying (a divinatory art) and he will communicate answers to her questions either in a black mirror or through the swinging of a pendulum.

Don't jump to a psycologyst too soon. Some people are more "senstive" to the other side.( I am not saying 100% that your friend is telling you the truth or filling you with tales. She may be experiencing her own guardian angel so to speak and this Irish man may or may not have been someone she has known in a past life. Some people truely claim to be able to sense the presence of the deceased , no matter recently gone or one who has past long ago. I think that sometimes these "senstive" people are often confused by non believers of having mental illnesses then placed in mental facilities or at best given prescription drugs to help them not see, feel, or hear what they by nature can not help but to.Give your friend support that doesn't mean you have to believe in her Irish man nor any other presence ect. Be a good friend and just watch and listen with open heart. If however this Irish man or any other that may be mentioned in the future seem to be causing harm by suggesting harm to your friend or your friend too harm others ect. that would be the time to step in. Often times these presences are not of a harmful nature and do not/would not suggest horrible things to happen to anyone. They are just there as friends family support and guidance in your time of need or grief. Hope this helps.

i don't really believe in that kinda stuff but if that's what yr friend says she felt, then at least show some respect. But if she's crying all the time she misses him, who might not even exist, then I think she usally needs to see a doctor or therapist. Locking yrself in the room being miserable???I wouldn't go near her. It's not good for yr mental/physical health! You might end up being just like her. otherwise, help her. Be there for her and listen to her talk.

Well clearly she has some emotional issues. But if these hallucinations help her to get through life then no worries.
I'd definitely recommend she get some therapy to help deal with her problems. She might be abused, who knows. But whatever happens, tell her to stay away from medications, they only make things worse.
As long as you make it clear that you'll be there for her no matter what. That's the best you can do.

That sounds like something that happens alot during times of grief, it depends on the situation. I myself had something similar happen, as my sisters in-law were killed in a accident. I found myself hearing their voices out of nowhere or hearing their voices in other peoples... now this might not be the case in your friend, try to be as supportive as possible. She'll be all right... or at least I think so, if she gets worse you privately talk to a psychologist to ensure its all good.

Get her to a doctor. Check for brain tumors and psychological problems. I dont know about ghosts, but in conjunction with the depression this doesnt sound good.

I believe it. She may want to see a counsellor to get her through the rough times. Most cities have free counselling if you look hard enough. Good luck!

Present your situation to a psychologist. He/she should be able to tell you how to approach this situation so that your friend gets the help she needs without hurting her feelings.
