The first thing you need to do is never define yourself as 47 and overweight. That's like saying you don't like yourself so why should/would anyone else....Then...start to work on the rest of your self esteem. Once you get to the point where you're your own best friend, then guys will be attracted to you and you can pick and choose who you want to be with.

Yes. Keep trying online dating. You can weed out the ones that you don't want very quickly. If you find someone that you like, start e-mailing back and forth. If you still like him (and he still likes you) you move to a phone call. If you like him on the phone you meet IN A VERY PUBLIC PLACE. Of course you lie to him about the clothes you're wearing and the car you drive- that way if see him and you don't like the way he looks he won't notice you and you can disappear. Keep trying it, there are dozens of sites. Just think of it as an easy way to eliminate "losers". If you don't like guys with bad grammer for instance, online is a DAMN easy place to weed that out.
Of course church too. Go to the biggest church in your area and do all of the events...you might meet a nice guy and a few good friends!!! And maybe it will make you stop using words like "DAMN"...oh wait...that was me...nevermind!!!

You could try the singles groups at a church. If you don't meet someone there, maybe through them you will meet someone. In the single services, usually churches have singles Sunday school services, will have get togethers after church. You could attend those outings.
Friends could introduce you to potential guys. Grocery stores are places to meet guys believe it or not. I have got hit on at grocery stores myself.
Now I have a boyfriend. I was introduced to him through a friend. We were friends for over a year and a half before we decided to date. I am 39. We just started dating. I did one church singles church service before that, but to me, it was more of a meat market, people checking each other out and not paying attention to the sermon. That was not the Sunday school service, that was a single service at a Methodist Church my friend invited me to. She loved it. It wasn't for me. Each denomination has something. They usually have activities after church too.
Best wishes to you.

Sounds a little odd but . . . .
Join a club or society that has a strong social climate. You'll meet likeminded folks - I can't think of a better place to start. salsa classes are a blinding idea and way -
Nice guys are always about - just gotta find the right one - it's all relative - my sisters 'nice guy' had a reputation. he's alright in my eyes!!!

You can try another online dating website. There is a new one, www.varietybride.com that posts single women’s profiles from around the world. It is free to post your photo and information about yourself. Anyone can contact you for free. They message you through the website so they don’t know your email address until you decide to share it with them.

Book stores, art shows; pick something you can develop an interest in, and go looking. Sometimes a smile to someone who's traipsing between shelves at Borders can go a long way.

Take up a hobby; go to church; take a class at the local college/university; volunteer.......all have a variety of people, and allow for interaction, so you can get to know someone as friends.
