It isn't that it is a curse word. It is very obviously meant to be used the same way though. It is an unnecessary qualifier, an empty adjective. You could say "Have a lovely day" and you would get your meaning across. Now hear how it sounds when you say "Have a freaking lovely day". Go on, say it. See? It sounds sarcastic, and will put most people off in conversation. It is a substitute for a curse word at its best, and at its worst, it is a precursor (pardon the pun!) to actual curse words. Our language has enough genuine words to embellish conversation, there is no need to put in words that don't belong. But what do I freaking know?

Freaking is not a curse, but at the same time, it depends on how it has been used, for instance: If she said you are making me freaking mad!! it would be used in the place of f***ing because she knows she's not allowed to say that. If she said you are freaking me out!! that is just a scare tactic of some sort. How old is she? and who would she hear something like that from?

I consider it cussing and ask my teens not to use it. So they do, when I am not around. It also sounds rude and horrid coming out of the mouth of a sweet young girl.
