Perhaps you weren't in anyones custody at the time... Usually they change it to whoever has custody of you pretty soon... I was adopted at 3 days so my adoptive parents names are on mine.

IF you rec'd a copy in the mail, it may not have all of the information on it. There's some privacy act everyone's touchy about now.

Look on the original, it should have a raised seal, possibly your hand/foot prints, and parents name.

If you have a copy, for work, applying for a passport, etc, it may just be a piece of paper stating that you were born.

My parents had accidentally misplaced my birth certificate, and we were going on a trip to Canada. The requested a copy, and never found the original. So, all I have is a copy, too.

I think it depends on where you were born or when. Not all birth certificates have that information on them. Mine doesn't. I do have something called a birth record and that lists everything. So, I have two documents, both legal - a birth certificate and a birth record. A web search for your city's government offices should provide a form or a number you can contact about requesting a long birth certificate or a birth record.

Because they change all that when you get adopted. I have the same problem. I can't find my birth father because I was adopted by my step dad. Sucks. Maybe your parents can help. Good luck
