imagine their was no after-life reward for being faithfull to god. no heaven.
just the satisfaction of serving god while you are alive, and no other benefit. you live, you serve, you fade to nothing
now, imagine the life that YOU live here on earth.
you live out your life trying to be faithful to god, but you can't help but to notice that your life, your particular situation, isn't AMAZINGLY better or more blessed than the typical non-believer. In fact most non-believers would probably say they are about as happy with their existence as you are.
now, imagine that you die and become non-existent.
without being given a heaven, would you feel like you were ripped off?
does there need to be a eternal reward for serving god in order for it to be worthwhile, considering that atheist are relatively just as happy with their life as christians are ?

That is a very good question! I am a total believer of God. I know my reward is heaven. I am not perfect and never will be. But you have to admit that no commandent of God's is going to hurt anyone. Would it hurt you to love your neighbor and your enemy? Would it hurt you to give to others before you think of yourself? Would it hurt you to not steal, or lie, or murder? Or have sex after marriage? Think about all the sexually transmitted disease. If everyone waited till they were married, we wouldnt have to worry about the gross sexual diseases. None of this stuff is hurtful and following these rules shouldnt be just for God, but to make life here a better place for everyone. I dont think that I want to live my life not following God's commands even if there was no God, I feel good at helping others and loving everyone. So if I somehow did find out after I died that it was a hoax, it would still be worth it to follow the commands because they help me be a better person. And not every christian is rich and not every athiest is either, but being rich with whats inside of you is what makes you truly truly happy!

Way back in the day when my mom would make us go to church with her, I thought the same thing. It seemed like the only reason people acted good was because of some reward you're supposed to get when you die. When I got older I realized that that was a stupid reason to believe in something and decided to live life the way it best suited me.

Well if i deied i wouldnt know there wasnt a heaven now would I. But if that did happen, and i somehow knew there was no heaven, I would have to have undergone Nirvana or release from rebirth, wouldnt I? That wouldnt bother me at all. It would just prove i was enlightened.
