When my friend got married (parents divorced) she put her mother's name first b/c she paid for the wedding. Her father paid for the reception.

Because everyone was divorced and remarried at my first wedding our invitation said something to the effect of " Bob & Sue along with their parents and step-parents invite you etc....." If people are close enough to be invited they should know at least a few of the parents... the rest they will meet in the receiving line.
Good Luck!!

Usually the parents on the invitations mean they are paying for it.
Are both of your parents splitting the cost? If so, traditionally husbands first, but I don't think it matters.
We had the same dilemma until we brought it up with our parents. We payed for our own wedding, so both sides made it clear that although they were touched, they shouldn't be on the invitations.
That made it easy. Paying for it was hard.

Generally speaking, it all depends who is sponsoring or paying for the wedding. It gets tricky when your parents decide to split the costs or if they have remarried and want to include their new spouse on the invitation. Best to communicate with your parents when this happens and come to some amicable agreement.

I think the mans name should go first
Mr John Smith and Mrs Mary Jones
request the pleasure...
or you can just write "Together with their parents" that would eliminate any specific naming problems.

Place your dads, its common to place the males name first. I really dont know why but its most always that way. Or you could do half with his name first and the other half with hers first. Send the half with his name frist to his family and the other half to her side of the family with her name first. But i am sure that it wont matter who you place first as long as both names are there.

That is a tough one I would put your mom only because ladies are usually first and she gave birth to you.
