Cath,
Try wearing foot wear with the Scholl inserts that provide support to your inner foot arch..is it high? or do you have flat feet? That's important to establish. Over the counter Motrin or Advil or Tylenol (whichever you use) will decrease the inflammation to that part of your foot temporarily. Until you support your natural arch your problem will continue.

For information on muscles, pain and referred pain read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
For feet you DO need the arch support if you are getting pain from not wearing any. There are some that cost as little as $7.00 that are just as good as the expensive ones.

You relieve the pain by wearing proper shoes all of the time. That's what your doctor was telling you.
