i have to give kudos to Artysoldr..... I salute you future officer... being a former instructor and E-6, I have developed many motivational techniques..... most of them in a training environment is of course Physcial Training.... but once you get "back in the line" as they say.... i found that i could seriously motivate soldiers by making it challenging yet interesting at the same time...... for instance.... military Jeopardy works real well.. take some paper and write different subjects and different values for the subjects and then split them up and basically play Jeopardy..... never be unprepared, always have training aids if you talk about them, give your soldiers time to prepare for the training, be approachable, and like Artysoldr said, Lead from the Front... dont be that "you do as i say, not as i do" guy... demand respect, but give it also....

Earn trust. Keep high morals and values. Then when you lead from the front, troops will follow suit. You can find good techniques in the Army Field Manual 25-100 (Leadership manual). It suggests a lot of things to avoid (hurry-up-and-wait, mass punishments, hazing, etc.) and plenty of things to implement (get to know your troops, let them get to know you, lead from the front, etc.)
If you're talking about different specific activities that you can do as a team in order to build unit cohesion and build morale... that's dependent on the people in the unit. What's fun and will work for one unit may not work for another. The key is getting to know the people.

Well the Russians in WW2 thought shooting men that did not comply with orders was a good motivational technique.

there are thousands of motivational techniques. My boss too her whole team to Busch gardens one day. It was a blast. Another boss took us to sea world.
