I recently found out a neighbor of mine died in his home. The mail began piling up and the postman put things together. The man was discovered dead but a little over a week had passed. I’m told his dog ate a good portion of the deceased’s calf & hamstring during this time. Is this normal? Would a dog actually begin eating a human after such a short time? I was considering adopting this dog until I heard this story. If I were to adopt the dog, would he now try to eat parts of my body while I’m sleeping?

The Poor animal, to have your owner, and obvious only friend, die and nobody there to feed you, would have been stressfull. All dogs in extreme circumstances, will go for any food source available. What about the people who turned to cannibalism to survive in this century. If you look after, love, water and feed this animal, do you really think it would repay you by thinking of you as an extra snack? Have a long think about adopting this animal if you do, as it will sense your mistrust, and neither of you would be happy.

The dog wasn't fed for a week; he was hungry. He could have eaten the entire carcass if he wanted to. People have eaten other people in times of great need, and gone back to normal food once it became available. The dog will do the same.

well since the owner was dead, there wasn't anyone around to feed the dog, so the dog must have gotten so hungry he ate the dead body. I've heard stories like this before.

Well seeing as the owner was dead and was unable to feed his dog. The dog's dish would run out and there would be nothing to eat, so while it's disgusting, I think the dog was only doing what was natural (circle of life thing, I guess you would call it) and he was probably starving.

It's nice to know that some of the good old urban legends are still being shared.
