I don't like it when a teammate lets another teammate lead a lap. It feels like cheating to me. If your car is good enough to pass the leader, then you should get the points, but you shouldn't get points just because someone else held back. It would be a good idea to get rid of the rule.

This has been going on for years. It was popular to enter a throw-away car in the field. After so many laps this car was pulled behind the wall with handling problem.NASCAR got stricter on the number of cars from one owner so this practice faded(it is still done by some teams during the points race at the end of the year) out fo the most part.So the next thing was the bonus points and it was easy to "slide" up the track and let a team mate by and a lap or so later he slips.
Personaly I do not like this practice but if I was an owner and had a chance for 2 cars in the chase I would tell my drivers to do it.

i think the leading a lap deal would be better if it was limited to green flag laps and not staying out a lap during caution. any one can lead a caution lap. it takes a bit more to fight off other drivers during green flag. i could see having either the 5pts a lap or just a general whoever leads the most if not both of them.
i don't mind if teammates do a switch-a-roo for the 5pts. i don't like it when a chase driver expects their non-chase teammate to just pull over and give them the lead or any position. at some point you have to earn your position. case and point brian vickers and 24 and 48 team last season. vickers was doing really well at dega being in the front and all and the 24 and 48, especially the 24, expected vickers to whoa up and give up his position. of course we all know how that race turned out!

I don't mind the 5 pts they give to thier team mates. The thing that upsets me is why the once the other team mate has the lead he would give it back? Kind of a D!x move but still. I think that NASCAR should try to figure out some other ways to award bonus points. To really honor the "team" aspect of a crew maybe 5 bonus for fastest four tire pit stop or something.

5 points are 5 points.that can mean alot in the chase.
i agree completely with 5 points for leading a lap,no matter how it is done.
teammates are there for a reason, and that is to help the other teams out when need be.
i think back when busch won the championship,he won by 8 points.just think if someone would have led 2 more laps in the season he would not be champion.
so yes i think it plays a big part of nascar and glad the rule is there

the reason for leading a lap for five points is getting less important every year. Points don't mean much anymore if you are in the top 12. Cuz the top 12 make the Chase anyway all even, It's all based on WINS

The first person you want to beat is your teammate, so I say no way. But if your owner wants you to let them, you better have a big set to say no, or do as he says and keep the peace.

that's the point of having teammates. if one is doing good in the points and, the other isn't doing so hot, He can still help His teammate and, the team as a whole gets ahead.

I agree with TSF.. The bonus for leading a lap is crazy. But as it is, no I don't like them letting a teammate do that.

It's not the teammates that are doing this, it's the team owners.
