OK one thing i know for a fact is that a dog will not eat any part of his owner the dog will curl up next to his master and die of starvation with him that is why they call him mans best friend now a cat on the other hand will eat his master don't know why this is but it is so i believe in my opinion that this is just a rumor that was.

I am so sorry you had to find this neighbor this way, very sad. Try not to dwell on the dog issue, it was a traumatized as anyone could be that its master was lost. I've never heard of a dog doing this, but if it did it would've been the dog was starving. A good idea would be to talk to a good veterinarian and get all your questions answered, then I wouldn't hold on to this if you bring the dog into your life; it was extreme conditions and the dog would never do this again. Don't even worry about the dog eating you in your sleep, that is unless its a highly trained killing dog...like have been in the headlines and created by horrible owners.

The dog probably had no food for a week. It was probably very hungry. I highly doubt the dog would repeat that unless starved. In fact, I don't know how big the dog is, but I'm surprised it didn't eat more. Dogs have an instinct to eat as much as possible at one time in case they don't have food for a while after that. Dead people and live people smell totally different to a dog, that is why cadaver search dogs must be trained with cadaver type scents. Anyway, there are no gaurantee's here, but I really do doubt it would be an issue.

Personally, I would not want to adopt the dog. I believe that every one is correct when they say that he was starving and that he was just practicing self preservation. I firmly believe that the dog did exactly what any other dog would have done when starving, but right or wrong, I still would not want to own that dog. I would just feel very wierd about it. Maybe even a little spooked. I agree with the person who said that the dog should go where he can he adopted without the stigma attached to him.

My roomate is a dog catcher, and says this is common. He goes to dead body scenes all the time and sees bodies half-eaten by dogs. They go for the soft tissue, most commonly the fingertips and face. I would say they do it because they are starving, not because of some blood-lust. Although it would be little wierd to own a dog thats eaten flesh. I wouldn't suspect he would try to eat you in your sleep, but I'd make damn sure you fed him all the time.

Any animal left starving by itself will eat whatever food source is available. Dogs are scavengers by nature, and will often eat raw meat as part of a 'natural' diet. This poor dog had no other choice - it was his only means of survival.
Taking this dog into your home, or having him rehomed elsewhere, is not going to put anyone at risk. Dogs are pack animals, and will bond closely with their (human or otherwise) pack members, not try to eat them.

The dog was probably to the point of starvation and had to as a mode of survival and the fact that the person was dead, I'm sure the dog realized that. I would still adopt the dog. I'm sure he won't try to eat you.

The dog isn't going to eat you. If you are worried about it, then don't adopt it.
I'd rather the dog go to a good rescue where it could be adopted without the stigma you have attached to it.

I sincerely doubt he would try to eat you while sleeping-he was probably starving and that's why he did what he did! A little over a week is a very long time for a dog to go w/out food!

human beings have killed and eaten dogs, why ought to the dogs devour the human? All issues considered i do not imagine you've something to agonize about. you may comprehend if the dogs began to devour on your leg interior the approach the evening. And he purely did what he had to so he ought to stay alive. not something may situation me about the undesirable dogs in any respect.
