I use a cool mist one for my allergies and it works pretty well.

I personally use a warm mist humidifier. It helps decongest me, and it also keeps my throat from getting sore and dry. It works wonders for a lot of people with allergies! Just make sure you clean it occasionally to keep mold from building up inside of it, which will irritate your allergies more.

For the times when something has me so ill I can't breathe, I usually use warm moisture. But I really don't see why a cool mist won't help

Are you stuffed up? I use a warm mist when I get congested...works great.

cool would probably be better as bacteria and viruses thrive in warmmer moister air
