My friend is in Los Angeles right now and shes having a miscarriage at 2 months. Shes been bleeding heavily since this weekend. Problem is, she has no money and no insurance and i'm about 400 miles away from her so i cant do too much. From what i've been researching, i think shes having an incomplete abortion and needs the rest taken out of her in order to stop the bleeding and avoid infection.
Problem is, where does she go? She tried to make an appointment at a free clinic (i'm not sure which one) and they said the earliest time would be tues. She may just end up going to the emergencey room at a hospital but shes really trying to avoid that due to financial backlash.
So, should she try another free clinic? Does planned parenthood deal with this kind of thing? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Tell her to call Planned Parenthood ASAP they are a wealth of information for this kind of stuff and even if they can't help her, they will be able to tell her exactly what to do and where to go for help.

maximum Dr's do not get entangled with an early being pregnant miscarriage - if it has began certainly it really is maximum perfect to allow the tissue pass. D&Cs are linked with possibility of infertility down the line by using scraping of the uterus and are frequently in uncomplicated words required once you're more effective than 8 weeks into your being pregnant (except the miscarriage has no longer began certainly). regrettably, once a miscarriage has began there is no longer something a Dr (or all and dissimilar else) can do to stay away from it - and they are more effective uncomplicated than human beings imagine. that is why Dr's do not schedule the first prenatal appointment till approx. 8 weeks - because the mum might want to lose the toddler previously that aspect. the most perfect suggestion you are able to provide your chum is to relax, stay off her ft, take some tylenol if mandatory and if she develops a fever or does no longer supply up heavy bleeding (soaking a pad interior of an hour) interior of a pair of days she might want to pass to the Dr or well being facility to rule out an infection. otherwise, having it certainly is the most perfect element she will do. also - she desires to offer up using tampons ASAP. If she is experiencing a miscarriage, a tampon is the incorrect area of be using because it may reason fetal tissue to proceed to be in the back of and can want to outcome in an infection. best of success on your chum, she will choose your help on the prompt.

Hospital emergency rooms can not turn a person away. Go there for treatment. It is the most expensive place to get treated, but arraignments can be made for payment and maybe a lower bill. This is more in the realm of health concern and not financial concern.

She will more than likely need a DNC done at a local hospital or doctor's office. She needs to be seen immediately. Most hospitals cannot reject someone for not having insurance. She can make payments on the bill. She needs to go though. If she doesn't, she can end up having a severe pelvic or uterus infection which could lead to death.

teri,
"Financial Backlash" aside, this condition could be fatal. She does not need to:
1. Take the Bus;
2. Walk;
3. Ask a bud for a ride;
nor
4. Wait for a Taxi...
She needs to call an ambulance and get to an E.R. NOW.

Not to be rude, but if you are dead broke and have nothing, what kind of financial backlash can you expect by going to the ER? Tell her to get her butt there right away. Your life is wayyyyy more important than having to deal with a couple collection calls.

I just had a miscarriage myself in September. My obgyn told me that I could choose to have the d&s done or I could just wait for my body to expell the fetus on it's own. She described it just as you did, the extremly heavy bleading and agonizing pain. She said it was my choice. She did add that I could choose to just let it happen in the comfort of my own home but that they may still need to go in and take out whatever my body doesn't expell on it's own.
In other words, I wouldn't worry too much about what's happening to your friend just yet. Tell her to keep the appointment at the free clinic and let them check her out on Tuesday.
You are a good friend, just be there for support for her. The last thing I wanted to do was talk about it when it happend to me but everyone is different. Let her set the tone with this and just be there for her as much as possible.
Good Luck!

I suggest the ER. They can't refuse her for not having money or insurance. And when she gets the bill months later, she can pay it if she has the money. If not, oh well. It's better for her to go ahead rather then risking serious infection.

She needs to go to the E.R. There are ways for people with no money to get help and the hospital will refer her to the financial assistance she needs. Her health is important...don't let her put it off.

She is better off going to the ER. They can not refuse her on the basis that she has no money. They MAY be able to save the baby (no promises though)
