My Son has tourettes.

He has ALL of the above symptoms.

I am sorry to say it's passed down from parent to child

It does not always have to express it's self as tourettes.
Other related syndromes are obsessive compulsive, migraines, another syndrome (forgot the name- a sensory syndrome where the senses are "Overloaded" and drive the person nuts)

This runs in MY family. Myself and my mother have migranes. My sister is OC, my Son has Tourettes, my OC sister has a son with the sensory overload problem.

According to my Son's neurologist (who has tourettes himself- and his son does too) all of these are related to dopamine in the brain and how it's used.

My son studders and makes "Puppy noises" He used to tick and grimace and flip has hands back and forth, "chicken head" back and forth

He is currently on Topamax. It is hardly noticeable now.

----------In addition---------
Most times these ticks are mostly outgrown by childhood- but sometimes not.

Tourettes Stuttering

I can't say for sure, as I'm not a doctor. However, I have tourette's and I don't think you have it. You may have OCD tendancies or anxiety but I seriously doubt that it's Tourette's. Here's why: 1- Tourette's is a neurological condition that has a rigorous diagnosis process. In order to be diagnosed with TS, you would have had to have multiple vocal AND motor (movement) tics for at least one year. 2- Most every case of TS is diagnosed during childhood, usually before the teenage years. 3- The vast majority of cases of TS occur in individuals who have a family history of tic disorders. Also, most people with TS are male. The diagnosis of Tourette Syndrome has, in a sense, gained a reputation of being the "catch all" diagnosis for any tic disorder. I would suggest to talk to your doctor about your concerns with you new medication. Like I said before, it may be OCD tendancies or even anxiety, which are common with many of the add, adhd, and depression drugs on the market today. Good luck.

Yes Tourettes can cause stuttering, as well many other involuntary movements. Tourettes may sometimes also be accompanied by Obsessive Compulsive Syndrome. Even if the problem is barely noiceable now, it can progress over time. The best thing is for him to go get it properly diagnosed by a medical physician so he can do something about it now ASAP. Also, to lift your spirits and see the humor in it, watch the movie Dirty Filthy Love.

Check out the web site for The Stuttering Foundation at www.stutteringhelp.org then click on "brochures for all ages" and look for the one on stuttering and Tourette's Syndrome. You can download the brochure or just read it online.

Tourettes can cause invoulentary facial twitching and stuttering. There are some medications that he can get to help control it. And just because he has it doesn't mean that his kids will. It's possible, but not definate.
