I am a lover of fruitcake, it is just the best dessert that there is. But since I found out that it is saturated in rum or brandy, I have stopped eating it, for spiritual reasons. I was just wandering if there are any recipes out there that can create the same tasting fruitcake, minus the alcohol. Please help, i'm twitching for fruitcake.

Thanks

Substitute the rum for additional liquid (some applesauce or extra fruit) and use rum extract. All the flavor without compromising your beliefs!!

Typically store bought fruitcake does not contain liqueur. If you want the fruitcake to be liqueurless...just make the the recipe for the fruitcake and do not soak it with liqueur, although, I doubt you will find it tastes the same. I actually prefer the non-alcohol version that many bakery brands bring out during the holidays, like Hostess, etc.

Most commercially prepared fruitcakes only use flavoring and no actual rum since the cake may be fed to children so no worries there and every recipe I have ever seen says the alcohol is optional - you can substitute ginger tea, chai or even coffee for a real special kick! Good Luck!

Due to the same reasons my mother used to drizzle the fruit cake with orange or apple juice instead of liquor. The reason that the liquor is used is because fruitcake has a tendency to be dry to begin with considering that most call for baking for up to an hour. Another way around that is to just wrap it up real well and freeze it for a few days. It is not as dry after that.
