I used to be an alcoholic. I had a problem. Someone wanted me to join AA, but I declined. Know what I did? I stopped drinking so much. I still drink whenever I want at parites but never get out of control anymore. Why? Because I have a brain. AA is for people with absolutely no brain. Their logic is if you dont have the first drink you can't have the 15th. Yeah, and if you never get into a car you can't get into an auto accident. You see where this logic breaks down and enters the realm of stupidity.

I feel sorry for all you people that got sucked into AA and now your lives suck. Gotta go, going to have a beer and dinner with my wife.

My dad was an alcoholic when i was growing up.

He was the crying drunk and could put away two slabs without blinking. It wasn't until he'd been done on DUI so many times that the judge was going to toss him in jail on my wedding day that he finally woke up. The judge let him off so he could walk me down the isle!

Unfortunately my dad never had any will power which is why he started drinking in the first place. If it wasn't for the breath test engine immobiliser on his truck and the support he got from AA than he'd still be an alcoholic.

My dad is the sort that didn't ask for help and never took it when he needed it the most. Most of my life i was truely embarrassed of him. For the first time I can actually say that i'm proud of him.

He swallowed his pride and went to AA to get the help he needed. That makes him brave not mindless!

Some people need the support system of AA. Don't put down something that you didn't try. Not everyone can just have a drink or two, you are of the lucky percentile of alcoholics that can do that.

People that are in AA learn how to live life to the fullest without alcohol. Just because they don't drink doesn't mean that their lives "suck" as you say.

Just so you know, once you're an alcoholic, you always are. Whenever someone says "I used to be an alcoholic" (as you did) it angers me because it's not true. Even though you may not get out of control or a person may not drink anymore doesn't mean that the disease is gone. Anything can happen and it can re-occur.

Recovery means opening up your eyes, and that's what you need to do!

(Just so you know Kevin G, I am not in AA or an alcoholic. Just because I have a positive view on this doesn't mean that I'm in it. Did you actually read this thoroughly? NOT EVERYONE CAN HAVE JUST A FEW!)

YOU are very fortunate that you could stop and are one of the luckiest people on earth!! YOU don't have a disease!
You don't sound like an alcoholic to me, just someone who hates AA meetings and people who think AA is the only way.
*everyone has a right to their own opinion--you've expressed yours! FREEDOM OF SPEECH! RIGHT ON!

I applaud you for keeping your head on straight, and able to control your drinking and ablility to drink socially for 13 plus years.

Not many people can do what you did!
Lucky you!!

Yes, it does seem like AA people need their meetings, and they are the type that if they did have one drink they would have as many as they could until they passed out.

my best freind calls himself and Alcoholic. He went to rehab, hated the AA bs, but he got sober, after drinking for 32 years of his life, and was in bad liver trouble,
GOOD NEWS??? He's lost 90 lbs, and is so happy and healthy
and he doesn't even want to drink. CUZ he never wants to be a drunk again.
AA told him 'Maybe you're not a real alcoholic if you don't need meetings'
NO--- maybe he's not as messed up as the people who need meetings and came from Alcoholic homes, and got beat up from alcoholic parents, etc.

there are many types of drinkers, drunks, and alcoholics.

YOU must not be an Alcoholic if you can control your drinking and it's not affecting your life and you don't have black-outs.

Sounds like you are happy with yourself, and like a lot of others,
HATE AA!!!

AA works for those who need it, want it. My friend went cold turkey and ditched AA and never needed meetings, but prefers sobriety. I myself, will join you and have a beer.

Amen!

YOU my friend, didn't need it! But if you ever turn into one of those miserable saps, you'll know where to go huh?
So you learned something!

Good for you!

Everyone has a right to their opinion.

If you can drink socially, I suggest you weren't really an alcoholic. You wouldn't have such a low opinion of the program if you were truly an addict.

While AA may not have been an option for you, don't knock it for others. It's helped millions of people get off the sauce.
