I am a college student and I am in a friend's wedding. I do not have a lot of money to pay for a gift so I thought about giving my friend a spa day. I was going to paint her nails, give her a massage, pedicure, manicure the whole works the day of her wedding. I also thought about giving her a foot massage later in the evening. Is this a fair gift? Do you think she will appreciate it? Would you like it if you were in her situation?

I think this is a great idea. Why don't you make it a little more special, by making her a nicely designed gift certificate. It would have all the things you are going to do for her on it. Put cost, Free of Charge. Put a fake company name. Make it look real, and Sophisticated. Put it in a envelope, with a nice ribbon on the front, and give it to her, on her shower, or just before the wedding. This way it really looks planned out nicely, and with alot of thought. She will definitely like it.
Not every gift should be bought, some can be home made.

You are absolutely right, it IS tacky to ask for money from anyone unless you are borrowing it from a bank. Kids these days have such entitlement issues and it is sickening that they act this way without an ounce of shame. What actually makes a bride and groom forget all their manners and respect for their family and friends is beyond my comprehension. I would get them a very nice set of pillow cases in a high thread count. White or cream is best. If they cook, a gift basket with spices, kitchen linens and a bottle of wine would be appreciated. If you have some other friends who can join in on the gift, a garden bench is a great gift idea. I would NEVER put money into a PayPal account for a bride and groom for any reason, whatsoever.

the wedding day is a crazy day and flies so this stuff is better spent not on that day ; she has her family, her Mom who will want to spend time with her daugther ; she has a husband now ; don't think that this day is the right day for her to give up time to have her nails done by you or a foot massage; put together a romance basket for the happy couple to use; a bottle of wine; two nice wine glasses (don't have to be expensive ; just glass ; different shape ; you can even handpaint them if you are creative; a poem in a frame; a music CD; some candles ; scented oil, a dvd ; you get the idea

If you're training to be a beautician Sarah, really it would be nice if you offered to do it for your friend, but not so much as a gift - just a treat. Also, depending on how the reception goes, she might not have time for a foot massage later on.

You don't need much money - could you perhaps stitch a wedding sampler for them? Or offer to help with painting and decorating their home.

A real friend won't mind you not having money. In my opinion a real friend wouldn't want you to spend money you can ill afford to spend.

I'm just guessing she's a pretty good friend, so she will love this. You guys will beable to talk, gossip, and look good. THAT'S GREAT! You might also wanna give her a giftcard that's only a few dollars. Maybe one to Williams Sonoma. That's a kitchen place, and since she's getting married you never know when she may need new plates or measuring cups, ect.
HOPE THIS HELPED! HAVE FUN ON YOUR SPA DAY! I WISH I COULD BE THERE!

I think that is a wonderful idea! also very personal and thoughtful of you.
I know that I would appreciate something like that! besides, anyone can just go and "buy a gift"
that sounds perfect and there is nothing wrong with it. I think she would be flattered.
since you do not have a lot of money, pick up some cheap craft materials at a craft store and make her a little coupon that says something like>>>>> this intitles you to a day of pampering by me at your convenience. or something like that.
great idea! ;)

a wedding gift should be for both bride and groom!
see where she's(they) are registered, nice picture frames work not cheap dollar store crap. Money no matter the amount was extremely apprechiated at my wedding, a nice card with a nice note to boot to go along works to, gift certificate, the foot massage seems kind of gay

If it's a wedding gift, that kind of means something for both of them. Why not a gift card for "adameve.com"? They'll have fun shopping online for kinky stuff that THEY want. It'd be cheaper than a day at the spa.

im getting married in april. it sound like a great gift, but what about the groom??also i think i would be bothered by a friend trying to do all that for me on my wedding day. not to be mean. and she probably already has all those appts. set up for her big day. how about a bride and groom frame. you can get them cheap at bed bath and beyond!!!

that might be good, but I'm not a bride so I don't know

you could also go to the couples' friends and family and make a scrap book of their life together so far with their important dates listed (like when they met and when he proposed)

put in their pics together, something from restaurants and places they had dates at like a matchbook or menu, all those kinds of things,

then get all their friends and family to write all kinds of nice things about them and wishing them a good marriage
