No. Your physician will tell you not to drink alcohol while you are taking penicillin as well as other antibiotics.\

Here is a quote from a brochure of the American Pharmaceutical Association:

"Penicillins-Penicillins are antibiotics used for treatment of a
wide variety of infections.
Some commonly used penicillins:
amoxicillin, ampicillin, bacampicillin,
penicillin G and penicillin V
INTERACTION-Amoxicillin and bacampicillin may be taken with food;
however, absorption of other types of penicillins is reduced when
taken with food.

Sulfa Drugs-Sulfa drugs are anti-infectives which are used to
treat stomach and urinary infections.
Some commonly used sulfa drugs:
co-trimoxazole/Bactrim, Septa
sulfisoxazole/Gantrisin
INTERACTION-Avoid alcohol, as the combination may cause nausea. "

Any alcohol used while taking antibiotics will reduce the effect of the medication.
My doctors have told me this several times.

Medically, its against the rules.. alcohol and medications taken together... but there aren't any proven basis that it would hurt you... Beer and Antibiotics are ok... =) If you die don't blame me hehe..
