sometimes it just gets to be too much for people. When you see that pretty little bird and you have all the money and care in the world, you take him home and love him. Then life happens. Someone gets sick, you loose your job, you get promoted...or ot could just come down to you didn't know what you were getting into. Sometimes the most responsible and loving thing you can do for a pet it give them up when you know you can't take care of them any longer.
I've helped re-home several parrots and budgies and i've learned something...there are four types of pet people....people who are cruel/don't care, people who care but are too selfish to give the pet up when they can't take care of them, people who care and are adult enough to surrender the pet instead of kill it, let it free, or dump it, and lastly, the people who are able to provide lifetime care.
I could tell you horror stories that will make you resepct those people who swallow thier pride and go through the heartbrake of pet surrender. Let me tell you, adoption parteners are not nice and do not think kindly of people who get rid of pets, even for a valid reason. It sucks. If they didn't care, they would put it in a box and dump it.
However, when it comes to birds, it just comes down to people thinking a bird is just a different type of pet than what they are. Birds aren't easy, and sometimes, even if you work with them, research, and love them, it just plain isn't for you and the best thing to do is re-home.

Not being able to take care of them properly, give them enough attention, or afford them. Pets cost a lot and need a lot of care and attention.
I have a lovebird that is excessively plucking. We are taking it to vet and working very hard to help it. However, we have though of giving it away to someone with an aviary so it can be happy. We are not going to do it unless it's the last resort but I think that is a good-hearted reason to give up a pet, for the pet's sake.

I would never give up a pet. Not for a landlord, I would find a different place to live. And not for allergies. Don't get the pet in the first place if there are allergies. Its not fair to the pet. Unless a loved one was going to DIE, I wouldn't give up my pets.

I bred exotic birds, Macaws, Cockatoos, African Greys, Conures. I loved them all and didn't even mind getting up several times a night to feed the babies. The noise is what finally did it for me. I'm 50 years old with some health issue, but the noise was driving me crazy. I couldn't even get a cup of coffee in the morning, they were all screaming so loud. I was chopping fruit like a wild woman. It was like selling off my children, I cried when I sold ever last one of them. My husband and I had considered getting another Macaw, then the other day we went over to a mans home, he had a Moluccan Cockatoo, and it wouldn't stop screaming. I'm glad we got that reminder. We're just to old to deal with all that noise.

I would never give up any of my pets unless I felt like someone could give them more love and attention than I could but I have rats and bunnies and a cat and sometimes I feel like I don't get to spend the time with them that they deserve. but for allergies or a landlord or anything else wouldn't be a good enough reason for me to want to get rid of them what if they are put down i'd never forgive myself!!

If he or she bit any of my nephews or nieces without provocation. While I love my pets and have socialized them to all situations, if they suddenly started biting children, it would be time for a new home.

I recently gave up a parrot -- his screaming in the mornings was unbearable and affected my entire household. Sad to see him go but my mental health improved greatly

if i wasn't able to care for it anymore then i would. it would be really hard on both of us, but it would be selfish of me to keep it, if i couldn't afford to, because of my feelings.
