I have a friend that has a new laptop that just crashed due to a virus? or maybe his own meddling where he shouldn't have. Basically it's now missing files (primarily the ntldr file) and needs to have windows reloaded. I only have a copy of xp home edition...but the laptop came with media edition. Can that at least get me to the repair windows utility if not an install?

It will install windows Xp home and it will leave the files that have been previously saved on the computer.

Good luck!

abode windows XP abode received't like the product key for XP Media center version. those keys are very certain to which variations they are. you are able to wipe XP Media center off in basic terms nice, set up XP abode in basic terms nice, yet in about 30 days, XP abode will end operating except you supply it a valid product key.

No you can not. The two codes are not compatable. However if you use the cd and the code that came with the cd then it should work leaving the basic files.

Basically I would use it to do a clean install and update to XP home.
