A man walks into a bar and asks for a glass of water. The bartender points a gun at the man's head, instead. The man smiles, says "Thank you," and leaves. Why?

Someone was telling this joke/riddle but people kept giving the "wrong" answer. She claims the answer is very simple but won't reveal it. I don't know the answer either.

The man has hiccups. Drinking a glass of water slowly (and sometimes in bizarre ways) is supposed to be one cure for it. Instead the bartender decided to scare him, because this is also supposed to cure hiccups.

It's more of a puzzle than a joke, really.

the man who asks for the water has the hiccups. most people drink water for hiccups, but the bartender decides to scare him by pointing the gun to his head, which is another way to cure the hiccups.

i was thinking more along the lines of that the guy was constipated and then not so much, after he got the shitt scared out of him. hiccups works too i guess.
