One place dc motors are used is where the available power is dc such as a vehicle that has a battery.

They also used to be found extensively in industry and you will still find them in some old installations even though the power supply is ac. The reason they were used was because they are easy to control the speed of (see Ward Leonard) with basic technology. They are less used now because modern electronics allows good speed control of ac motors and ac motors have less maintenance issues.

DC Motors are motors designed to run on battery power (also known as Direct Current or DC). They have more torque than a motor of the same relative size which is operated on Alternating or AC voltage. That's why a rechargeable (battery operated) electric razor gives a better shave than a corded (AC powered) eletric razor.

DC motors are used in electronics and automobiles mostly but other places too. for example, when you open your CD or DVD tray, there is a DC motor pushing the tray and then pulling it back in when you push the button. the windshield wipers on cars run on DC motors. the old vcrs used DC motors to turn the tape/ rewind/ etc.

dc motors are used for many things
like cieling fans or maybe sanders but for me it's hard to tell if the motor is dc or ac so i'll avoid saying the wrong thing but lets just say every electrical movement we see around us is caused by a motor
