salt raises the temperature at which water will boil (by increasing the solutes in the solution)

salt lowers the temperature at which water will freeze (by increasing the solutes in the solution)

It effects both the Boiling Point and the Freezing Point. I'm not sure what the exact equation is but whenver you add something to water to make a solution, you Increase the Boiling point...meaning it needs to be hotter to boil, and you Lower the freezing point, meaning it needs to be colder to freeze.
