Gelatin is a major ingredient in marshmallows, and most gelatin manufactured in the United States comes from pigskin although some is made from cattle skins and bones. At least this is what I read in On Food and Cooking by Harold McGee.)
Kraft Foods, on their website in the FAQ area, states that their Jet-Puffed Marshmallows are made from pork-based gelatin although their Marshmallow Creme is not. Here is the link:

There are gelatins made from agar and other vegetable/plant sources. They do not have the same consistency as gelatin made from animal products, but if you want to avoid meat then look for them in specialty stores.

Sort of . Marshmallows are made with gelatine , and that may be made from animal sources.

There is also a vegetable based gelatine .

You should be able to find Kosher Marshmallows or a vegetarian type.

Oh my God. I worked with quite a few palestinian men who actually were reading, well trying,to read a bag of marshmallows. I said wtf are you doing? They were making a big fuss over something to do with yellow dye and that if a product contains it then it has a pork product. Thats really all I could understand. Thats so weird you asked that, this happened like 7 years ago, and I never thought Id see or hear of anything like this ever again. Im not exactly sure what number yellow dye it is, but I know they were spastic about it. (My God, if they knew i cooked bacon in the fryer they cooked their chicken in!) So, anyway they were way off from what they were suppose to be looking for anyway, yellow dye and gelatin maybe something was lost in translation?

Marshmallows USED to be made with a form of gelatin derived from animal bones (by-product of meat preparation), which did indeed include the waste bones of butchered pigs (along with those of cows, goats and even horses), but rest-assured this is no longer the case; "gelatin" has been replaced with a vegetable-derived synthetic replacement that now also gets called gelatin, though it really isn't.

..i dont know what type of marshmallows your eating, but no. though i do think they have gelatin in them, so if your veggie, they are a no go.

Marshmellows are made with gelatin.

Google gelatin and see what you get. It's made from rendered animal parts.

I think your all wrong and Marie, don't even get me started. It's actually beef-based or fish-based so.......

Please. Yes. I hope so! If Their can use leather cleaner to flavor ice-cream then is it too much to ask that porcine flavored marshmallows be the next logical step on the culinary evolutionary ladder?
