Just set your camera to "Auto" and turn it on. Press the "Menu" button. Toggle LEFT with the multi-selector and then toggle down to the "S" or "Setup" menu. Use the multi-selector button to choose "Date." Toggle RIGHT to move to the date and clock menu. After that, use the same button to walk through the steps of setting the clock. Use up or down to change the number indicated and when it's right, use the right side of the button to toggle to the next number to be set. When you are done, just push the multi-selector to the right again and your settings will be saved and the clock will stop blinking.

Well, I looked through the 775's user manual online, and the only reference to a flashing clock icon that I could find...is that the clock calendar is not set...and you should set the current time and date.
But I don't know why you would not be able to take a photo if it were not set, though.

Anyway, go to the Troubleshooting section of your user manual (it should be on page 50 something) and go to where it says ERROR MESSAGES...you will find out about the flashing clock.

Look up Time and Date in the index, to show you how to set it.
Good luck, hope it works.
