The way I've heard the 666 interpretted as that makes the most sense to me is that numbers are very symbolic in Jewish tradition. 3 means completeness. 7 is also perfect. 6, being smaller than 7 is imperfect. So three 6's means complete imperfection. So taken in that perspective, the prophecy of the mark of the beast (666) isn't very specific.

6 stands for numbers that was twisted. 9 is the highest number you can pick in the the first digit group which usually stands for near perfect. 10 is always attributed to scale number which is perfect and only given to God. Since the Old Testament was considered the almost perfect words of God and given the number 9, The Book of Revelation is giving the readers a hint about a big deception that reverse the teachings of the Old Testament, Twist or reverse the 9 and it will become 6.
Now, if you will ask why 666 (3 times), there is in the Book of Ezekiel 21:25-27 ' O, profane and wicked prince of Israel, whose day has come, whose time of punishment has reached the climax, this is what the Sovereign Lordsays: Take off the Turban, remove the crown. The lowly will be exalted and the exalted will be brought low, TWISTED, TWISTED, TWISTED it will come. It will not be restored until he comes to whom it rightfully belongs; to him I will give it.
There is a prince of Israel who came after the reigns of Solomon and his sons whom you could find to have been in the time of the Romans. His teachings reversed most of the teachings of the Old Testament which was capitalized by Rome to slowly breakaway from the Jewish traditions. Now go and find it which one is that. There is a sign that specifically will tell outsiders who are they and what teachings do they carry.

666 Is the name of the number of the antichrist. Some numbers have a numerical value to them. There are many names that fit the bill. The official title to the office of thr Pope comes to mind, but there are others. As for most specific, there are many others. There are over 250 predictions about Jesus Christ alone that were fulfilled. They were clear concise predictions. NOT like Nostradomis, whose predictions were vague at best.

There are many very specific prophecies in the Bible.
Psalm 22 is just one prophecy of the sufferings of Christ, written 1000 years before His death, which is specific even to the words spoken by Jesus (verse 1) and by His persecutors (verse 8). It contains specific prophecy of the soldiers piercing Jesus' hands and feet (verse 16), dividing His garments (verse 18) and casting lots for His garments. (verse 18). Yet these are only a few of literally hundreds of prophecies about Jesus, some written 1500 years before He was born.

Take note: the next prophecy to be fulfilled
Revelation 17:15-18-----18:1-3.......And he says to me: “The waters that you saw, where the harlot is sitting, mean peoples and crowds and nations and tongues. Â And the ten horns that you saw, and the wild beast, these will hate the harlot and will make her devastated and naked, and will eat up her fleshy parts and will completely burn her with fire. Â For God put [it] into their hearts to carry out his thought, even to carry out [their] one thought by giving their kingdom to the wild beast, until the words of God will have been accomplished. Â And the woman whom you saw means the great city that has a kingdom over the kings of the earth.”
After these things I saw another angel descending from heaven, with great authority; and the earth was lighted up from his glory. Â And he cried out with a strong voice, saying: “She has fallen! Babylon the Great has fallen, and she has become a dwelling place of demons and a lurking place of every unclean exhalation and a lurking place of every unclean and hated bird! Â For because of the wine of the anger of her fornication all the nations have fallen [victim], and the kings of the earth committed fornication with her, and the traveling merchants of the earth became rich due to the power of her shameless luxury.”

Obviously, if it were to be used as some form of identification in trade, everyone couldn't have the same number. It would negate the original purpose. Personally, I think St. John was a shroom-fiend.

Most things in the Bible are symbolic.
Six is the number given to humans and it represents imperfection. Three sixes represent the unevolved animalistic force affecting the triune nature of humans (body, mind, spirit)
Mark of the beast represents the unevolved animalistic force within humans.

i would have thought that the most specific prophecy was...
"There are some here of them that stand by who shall in no wise taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God come with power."
