You can have tatts in the navy. But they did just change the regs. Check on line for Navy uniform regulations and look for tattoos. that will tell you what the regulations are.

There is an guideline out that lists the certain techniques concerning tattoos within the Navy. It tells you what's and isn't allowed, so far as what you'll be able to get tattooed, and in which you'll be able to and cannot get a tattoo. Click at the hyperlink under to uncover all of this knowledge...

ok. i am ex-navy and currently a tattoo artist that has many clients on the local navy base. you can enter the military with tattoos anywhere on your body. as long as they are not on the neck hands and face (unless they really need people in the job you are specializing, then they give you a waiver or pay for your laser surgery after bootcamp.) also no vulgar stuff like dead babies or women disemboweled, especially racist stuff. once in the military, every command has a different set of rules. the one here for example only allows tattoos that are hidden by t-shirts and can be no larger than the palm of that persons hand. the command north of here tho, anything goes, just nothing from the neck up or below the wrist. you will be fine.

Tattoos are allowed in the Navy, army, etc. It's the placement and the type of tattoo that has restrictions. As far as I know, they can't have tattoos below the wrist and above the collar. Provocative tattoos like pin-ups (pin-ups are another term used for tattoos of naked women in sexual posses) and racist tattoos like swastikas I know they are against. It is always a good idea to ask your recruit for the specifics. As for having a tattoo on your ankle, as long as it's fits their requirements, you shouldn't have any problems getting in. Your boots and pants will hide it.

Yes you can...
No tattoos/body art/brands on the head, face, neck, or scalp. Tattoos/body art/brands elsewhere on the body that are prejudicial to good order, discipline and morale or are of a nature to bring discredit upon the Navy are prohibited. For example, tattoos/body art/brands that are excessive, obscene, sexually explicit or advocate or symbolize sex, gender, racial, religious, ethnic or national origin discrimination are prohibited. In addition, tattoos/body art/brands that advocate or symbolize gang affiliation, supremacist or extremist groups, or drug use are prohibited. Tattoos/body art/brands will not be visible through uniform clothing. Waivers may be requested for prior service and existing tattoos from the Chief of Naval Operations.

Ask your recruiter. The military is getting very strict on tattoos. Some duty assignments are not available for people with visible tattoos and extreme tattoos or tattoos that cover large areas, such as the entire arm, may prevent reenlistment.

as far as i am aware tattoos are allowed in the military as long as they are covered by your uniform OR if it is NOT covered by your uniform it must be coverable by the palm of your hand. it sounds like there will be no problem with your tattoo. HELLO!! it's the navy! sailors are what made tattoos! whomever said no is wrong.

It all depends where you're going. You'll have to call them to make sure, but usually they ban tattoos on forearm, neck and face. You should be fine, but call just in case.
